Vet,
Good question. My oldest is a fixed blade my mother bought me at Sears when I was 5 years old, my brother got one to; he was 4. That was in 1957. We both were doing real good with them strapped to our sides while outside playing. Doing real good that is till my friends grandmother, who lived next door to us; saw us walking around the yard and woods wearing them. She about had a 'heart attack'. Came running up and asked us where we got them, etc. We told her, so here next mission was to call my mother and ask her. After finding out we had spoke the truth, she questioned her(my mothers) sanity I think. My mother got fired up, which was really rare for her; and told the lady what she could do w/ her assessment of the situation.....
That not being to the neighbors liking prompted her to call my dad at work. He was in the dark as to what was going on because we had only gotten the knives a few hours before, after he had gone to work. The lady had made it sound to him over the phone like we were in grave danger. He came home asap and found out the real story, no big deal. We did get restrictions put on knife 'carry' for a few weeks to keep peace in the neighborhood.(they did come down to our knees when we strapped them on) We slowly worked back into carry mode and it was no problem. That was another time and world from what it is now, sadly.

My next one is one I still use even though I have knives much , much more costly. It is a Schrade Walden fixed blade that I bought in the mid-sixties. It cost $4.86. It still holds an edge better than any knife I have. Can go completly thru at least four deer before I have to even touch up the blade. Wish I even had a clue as to what kind of steel it is.

Oh well, I've rambled and reminised enough. Thanks for askingn the question, it was a nice walk down memory lane...........

Oh yeah, Blademan; I've got a brother kinda like yours....You should have beat him about the head and shoulders...........

A razor sharp Camillus Navy Mark 1 that my dad carried in WWII. My dad knew how to get a razor edge on the knife.

My oldest -- a Kinfolks from WWII that my dad used to carry under the seat of his truck.

My 2nd oldest -- an huge unbranded "swiss army" style knife that my uncle brought back from Japan in 1957. I carried it everywhere as a kid. Never lost it or broke it.

What a great topic. I started looking and found a old 4.5" fixed blade skinner. The blade is stamped western USA W66 and it must
be 20+ years old, full tang, aluminum butt, brass guard and simulated wood handle.
any one with some info please drop me a line.

My oldest blade is from about 1912-1913 and is a 1908 WW1 pattern Bayonette Brit army issue.

The first knife I bought was a Chinky SAK rip off knife in 1987? My first reasonable blades were bought about 1993- a Meulaer bowie and a Gerber LST.

So I have been collecting about 7 years then
