Hey guys how are yah

It's just overall i'm compiling a list of sorts on the next knives I wish to buy. The more and more I buy knives that I like, The more and more I appreciate every sort of knife. I
I am a user and quite a big Spydie fan, but fully realize that there are a few companies that offer very special knives. Like the benchmade 710, Buck 110, SNG, Sebenza, Commander, La griffe, Cara-Cara, Trance, wharcom

I would like to get just one SAK. THE SOLDIER

Good decision, Bad decision is there a better model out there that represents Victorinox better then let me know

Just ONE SAK! Scary thought! :D

But if I wanted the best combo of EDC tools in one package, I'd say an Explorer Plus.

Yeah, I'd say the Soldier would be a good pick. I don't have one, as I've always really valued the saw tool on my SAK when bringing it camping (not for cutting firewood or anything, but for any multitude of other sawing tasks), but my vote is that the Soldier is really the quintessential SAK. I think that's the 'standard issue' one to Swiss infanteers, isn't it?

Nothing beats the Compact model in overall EDC duties for an urban environment... it's slim (only 2 layers) and has all of the essentials!

For camping, the Huntsman model is hard to top.

You can get by with only one SAK.

I only have one....... one in my pants pocket, one in my coat pocket, one in my car, one in my desk drawer...........

Seriously, check out the Victorinox WorkChamp. Great combination of tools and a locking blade. I've had one for a few years and it is very useful.

If I were buying only one Swiss Army Knife for the simple purpose of owning only one SAK, I think it'd be the One-Hand Trekker.

Otherwise, I would just select one of the closeout specials. Because SAKs are available anywhere and are mass-produced by the thousands, only the discontinued models have any Accumulator interest for me.

Good Luck deciding!

The Explorer is a great combo if you don't have need of a saw. I wish the OHT had scissors. Then it would be the perfect SAK.

Carry a Vic Money Clip in your wallet. That gets you scissors, as well as a more sheeple-friendly blade and a nail-file.
You might consider the Wenger NewRanger 56 or 58 as alternatives to the OHT.

The Soldier is the basic SAK. If you want to add a saw you've got a Farmer.
Farmers are currently available in red and blue alox, as well as the plain silver-colored like the Soldier.
There are variations with pruner blades or electrician blades replacing the can opener.

Most of the SAKs being suggested here have cellidor or nylon scales.
There is a greater variety of tools available in cellidor and nylon-scaled SAKs,
such as pliers, tweezers, toothpicks, corkscrews, Phillips-head screwdrivers and metal files.

I EDC a Traveller Lite:

The display includes time, alarm, elevation, and temperature.

I have a Super Tinker model, with the Phillips head screwdriver, that I really like. (Also have a Champion with the Survival Kit). But, the Super Tinker is a great smaller SAK. Has all that one needs. Large and small Blades, tthpick and twzzers, screw drivers, can openers, phillips screw driver, and Scissors.

If you want a good carry knife, with a pocket clip, check out the Benchmade 940. Great looking knife, good cutter and takes a lot of abuse.

For the first time buyer of an SAK.
You've just gotta get the biggest Vicky there is.
(Currently it's probably the Swiss Champ XLT).

Because, if you start out with just a standard 2 or 3 layer SAK, you're bound to lust for more tool blades to play with. This explains why most end up buying or looking for a combination of tool blades that don't exist in the regular range.
Further down the road, the requirements of a serious SAK EDC user would most probably be packin' it "light 'n easy", provide you've grown out of the novelty in having a really thick and heavy SAK worn on a waist pouch all day long. Naturally, personal experience would help narrow down to very personel choices for specific tool blades into something less bulky, like the Soldier/Pioneer for instance. But all these models are slip-locks and rather old fashioned; that's why it's not a bad idea to look at the newer larger bladed models with locking blades.

This is the natural way forward, but if you're a pure traditionalist please stick with your original intention of buying the quintessential SAK - the Alox Soldier - before all others.

The Vic Soldier is a good choice as is the Wenger Standard Issue (they are effectively the same knife, both are made to Swiss Army specifications, the only difference is the bail on the Wenger).

"Just to Own One" - Vic Soldier/ Wenger Standard Issue (as they are dated the year they are made and they have been made for a long time you can likely get one from your birth year, though the older you are the more $ you will pay).

If you spend lots of time in the woods you just can't go wrong with the Farmer (a Soldier with a saw and lanyard attachment)

If you work in a place with many sheeple a Vic Cadet (smaller thinner knife very similar to the Soldier but with a nail file in place of the awl) is a decent choice, comes in some nice colors right now.

If you like Spyderco knives then it might be a good plan to wait until the new 2008 One Handed Trekkers come out as there have been some changes...

My favorite is the Explorer, in part because it has a phillips that folds out 180 degrees, as opposed to most which only fold out 90. Having it fully extended makes it much easier to use.
