Well here it is....... instead of continuing to release sprints of new steels on just the manix and para 2 platforms why not some in the persian 2 ,navaja or even stretch. I know its easier cause they are keeping it in house in Golden but they have shippped steels oversees before ,like the m4 in bradley. I have this grip because even though I'm a knife nut and endlessly buy I just don't want to buy the same knife twice even if the steels are different. How bout when cts does get spyderco their bg 42 equivalent they make a sprint of it in the persian 2!!!!!!!!would be sickk

Yeah that would be sick .like they said the chapparell is like sage with diffrent handle materials but the sage has already done that twill,ti,and g10.how bout the chapparell is like the sage with diffrent steels and handle material. So the knife is just different enough to buy more then one of .like a mule team folder!

hell yeah...u should get the chapparell anyway its like that cf native u were digging

Cost.
As far as any knife made in Seki City, they will not use "inferior" imported steel. Sal has mentioned this before several times. The cost to send steel to Japan would make the Persian cost in the $300+ range. No thanks. It would more than likely not generate any profit at all for Spyderco, and put them in the red. In the current economy, it's not a smart financial move at all.
Taiwan might be different, but there is cost yet again. It was already hinted that the BG-42 variant of Carpenter's steel will be used. It is not clear what model would be chosen though. I understand the frustration, but there are already clear and long standing reasons why certain models might never see the light of day.

Ok then my second idea !?

Well, since I don't yet have a Para-2, I'm hoping they make one that will tickle my fancy, and that maybe demand will go down enough so I can by one at a resnobale price with a different handle color and a higher performing steel.

As far as "Mule Team Folder", I asked for that in a thread about a year ago. Once again, cost. To design a folder that would appeal to a wide variety of people, that actually want a super steel is not cost effective. It's like reinventing the wheel twice. We already have a "Mule team Folder", well, unofficially at least. That is why you keep seeing manix2 and Para2 sprint runs. It's all about the steel. That is why the runs are small(400-600 pieces), because not everyone will buy a $200 folder. Sal is a true steelhead, and he does the sprints to share that awesome steel with the rest of us that share a love for various high grade and exotic alloys in cutlery form.

The economy is in a bad way for people across the board, including companies. Taking unnecessary financial risks is foolish in the current climate. Second, The Japanese Yen and the Taiwan dollar are stronger than they were a few years ago. This means that the US dollar is not worth what it used to be. The knife community is much smaller than one might think. Most people right off the street could care less about CPM-S90V, BG-42, CTS-XHP. They want to walk into a Wal-Mart or Bass Pro and buy a knife for less than $30-$40. Such a large demographic cannot be ignored by forcing $300+ folders on them. that is why we have the Byrd line and the lower cost Sypderco Tenacious, Ambitious, Persistence, etc. In the end, it all comes down to cost in some form or another. Personally, I'm happy to have any model in newer steels. I doubt any company consistently kicks out new steel at the rate Spyderco does.

Maybe a Mule team folder blade, perhaps offering a blade in the mule team steels to swap out the 8cr13mov in the Tenacious?

I wouldn't mind seeing some of these new steels in the FRN UKPK line. Personally, the Para 2 and Manix 2 (And Native, and Military, and pretty much every other US made Spyderco) aren't knives I'm really interested in, whereas I have no problem carrying and using a drop point UKPK. They'd be at a price point my wallet likes better, too.

Now you are talking about importing US steel into China? Don't hold your breath on that one.

Interchangeable blades in different steels ........that's an awesome idea!!!! Do it with a knife(lock) that's easily dissasembled.bam mule team folder at cheap cost to all

If Spyderco does not stock nor offer replacement blades for existing knives, I cannot see them willing to have you disassemble the knife and add a blade for it. It would be a liability field day. You know somone is going to cut themselves bad and try to sue. Looks like Sal has covered the bases pretty well so far.
How about some cool new Bohler-Uddeholm steels like M390, ELMAX and N360? :)

I would imagine that if the interest is there with tye M390 Mule then a folder would not be too far off. I asked for a blue G10 Military with M390. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Someone could just as easily cut themselves using a knife as the could swaping blades:

LOL come on guys don't have a gripe,God only knows what's on the Spyderco drawing board deep under ground in the secret bunker in Golden. Some of the current catalog models are hit and miss at dealers because they're out of stock so often.Speaking of the catalog,I went on the Spyderco web site and requested one and in just a few days it landed in the mail box.Wow I was pretty impressed at how nice it was with 103 pages of products plus a price list.It looks to me like they have their hands full as it is.:)

Spydusse, Sal invented the mule team concept. No one else cares to do it, nor will they. 11 mules so far plus the sprints and you are complaining?

You are obviously not from my generation and didn't have to grow up with the knives we had. You don't seem to have a clue how lucky we are now.

If these things are so easy then lets see you design that knife and bring it to market. I promise I'll buy one if it's cheap enough, suits me perfectly and doesn't give me a single thing to complain about. Heck, for you I might not even get my micrometer out.

I guess if your only gripe with Spyderco is that they only push new blade steels and designs about 3 times more than the next best company. Then I guess it's not too bad :p

I do kind of like the idea of a "folder mule" though we know they sort of already do this, just split up between a few good folders. Is there any reason they couldn't bring the Tenacious design to their US made knives, and then implement different steels?? Most people I know think it's pretty darn good ergonomically and visually (maybe if they just straighten the spin like I've seen some people do, instead of it curving), and the only qualm seems to be blade steel. If China can produce and then ship out the Tenacious for ~$30, I don't see why we can't see a US made Tenacious starting at about ~$40-$45 base price, then the price of whatever better steels are provided.
