Please let me preface this by stating I am an old poot knife collector on SSI. Not complaining, I am blessed. I love knives and wanted to collect something affordable but pretty good quality. I am sure I will get some disagreement on my selection, but I really like the Ontario Rat 1&2 knives and I am always searching on the internet for variations I don't have. That is part of the fun for me. I need (want) more Rat 2's as I only have 2. I have other knives that I have decided to sell off or trade for more Ontarios, fixed and folding, to concentrate on Ontarios only. The search continues. Oh well, here they are so far. Have fun and happy collecting guys and gals. Mike in Missouri PS Wifey thinks I'm nuts. LOL

I know all about being on a budget man and I wouldn't imagine that any decent BF member would fault you for your love of the Rat knives! I don't have one yet but when a D2 carbon fiber one pops up for a good price I'll be all over it. Nice collection my friend.

:)Ditto for me ! Old poot , SSI , budget , wifey ;). Don't have any real Rat , only a Ganzo 740 which is similar but has an axis style button slide lock . Nice collection of Rats there Gunner and well organized/displayed . I didn't know there was such variation . My collection is much less focused and disorganized . No two are the same .

I regularly alternate my EDC between my "expensive" ZT0550 and my "cheap" RAT1.

Absolutely love my RAT1

EDIT:
Oh yeah and nice collection man!!

Nice collection. Guess I didn't realize there were that many different variations.

Where is the pinky?!?
One of the true quality production pink knives made and a RAT collector doesn't own one? I own one RAT and it be pink. So get on the ball and pick one up!!;)

Seriously though, RATs are probably THE best bang for the buck folders available right now. You have absolutely zero reasons to worry about some poozer dissing your collection. That's all some quality stuff there.

Nice collection.

I got a Carter Prime with the money I got back from returning a Case trapper. If all Ontario knives are as nice as this one they are some of the best kept secrets of the folder world, I can't think of a Spyderco, Benchmade, Kershaw, ZT or CS I'd take over it.

I really like my Rat 2 and am saving up to get a Rat 1 (maybe with D2). Unfortunately with our crappy dollar, it will take a couple weeks.

Oh and BTW, nice collection, but you need more ;)

That extra $12 (USD) is so worth it. Ontario does D2 really well! The increased edge retention will make a world of difference if you're used to carrying budget steels, not that I'm opposed to that I do it myself, but you will get a substantially better steel for not much extra ;)

Very nice collection, I don't have any experience with Ontario folders but I have read good things about them.

The Carter Prime, at its price point, is a mechanical masterpeice. I'm just not a huge fan of sheepsfoot blades. But I like it so much I'm considering having it reground into something more wharncliffy. The only thing holding me back is that the cost of a regrind is the same that I paid for the knife! :)

The sheepsfoot is something I like a great deal at this point my TR-4 is my only non-sheepsfoot.:)

Welcome to the "Old Poot's Club" from a card carrying member.

We didn't have a lot of money when I was little so when I managed to get a shell bolster Imperial toothpick I was a proud kid.
Back then ANY knife was a prize. I even had a pakistan lockback for a long time.

And in my opinion, cost of the item doesn't matter as much as how happy the hobby makes you.
As far as expensive goes, I have a Sebenza I got in '96 for $300 (most expensive) and a Randall Made Model 1 i paid $150 for and that's it.
A few in the $100 range but not many.
The main part of my collection consists of Old Schrade knives (my favorite) and most of those are slightly used ones i found at
really low prices.

And I don't consider a Rat 1 as a budget knife. It's a tank with a VW bug price tag.
I have a couple of 'em and love my orange one.
I REALLY want an orange Rat with D2. (insert drooling emoji)

P.S.
I once jokingly asked my wife if she had enough shoes and she said "you got enough knives?"

I shut my mouth :p

003.JPG 004.JPG Yep, I need a pink and orange Rat 1 for the collection, and yes I do indeed like Rat knives. The Carter Prime is on my want list. Here is a couple of bad pictures of my, by my standards, highest priced knives. Ontario XM-1 and XM-2. From what I have read they are issued to several military units but that may or may not be true. Don't quote me on it. Some of you may know for sure. Built like a tank, smooth opening and razor sharp edge. Cheap camera, so please forgive the pic quality. Thanks for the comments guys.
