as the title states id like to know which you guys think will be a better deal. i can currently afford one or the other. i believe the beckers to be better blades but with the price i only get 1 knife. if i go with ontario i get 2, and still get a becker albeit a smaller one. I want the flat end chisel type machete blade, this is very conveinant taking off bark, helping burning in bowls/boats and alot of other things other than prying. And i need to cut small trees and split fire wood. a friend had a bk3 at a survival camping trip this weekend and it was useful in so many ways that other bigger more expensive knifes were not.

i loved the bk3, but the sp8 looks pretty similar and i dont need the paracord hook especially if im gettin a bk11 with the sp8, i could use it for any small jobs. The sp8 saw back would only really be useful in notching but then again the bk3 hook would be as useless.

Do you think the bk3s quality is that much different than the sp8?

Thanks for the help fellas.

I've got the SP-8 and I love it. It came razor sharp and it is indestructible at least in my world.
If you want a big beefy blade it's a pretty good choice.
I like your choice of the SP-8 and the BK-11. It's hard to beat that combo.

A big plus one on that.:)

Note: After having my SP-8 for a couple of years, I stopped at RichardJ's and he put a ridiculous edge on it. It now borders on scary.

I too own an SP-8. If you are a DIY'er, then you will LOVE it. I say that because of the saw back. From the factory, IT SUCKS. It is NOT a 2 row saw. Mine now cuts like bastid, thanks to some modification with my dremel tool. I used the cut-off wheel. First i sharpened the tips of the saw on both sides, then i used it to make irregular angled grooves across the teeth. It now saws like nobody's business & does not clog up. I left about an inch of the sawback untouched because i like to rest my thumb on it when i choke up on it. My SP-8 is scary sharp the entire length. You can use it like a chisel too, because of the flat end (which is also razor sharp.) I LOVE it now. I hate things that don't work properly. When they don't, i fix em so they do. The sheath is awesome too IMHO, for a stock sheath. It has the most important feature for actually working with it & using it---a drop leg swivel set-up. Once you tie it around your leg, you can bend, squat, work, get into or out of vehicles/atv's/horses etc... without issue because it moves with you, not against you. It is a 1/4" thick & made in America. VERY HIGH "bang for the bucks."

EVERY thread needs pichers !!! LOL :D

The SP-8 is a couple of inches longer than the BK too. It's a beast. I love Beckers but the choice here is easy. Two for the price of one and bigger is always better.

Thanks fellas, i just ordered the sp8 and bk11. And made the wife promise me a bk2 for xmas to fill the gap.

Twinstick that is an awesome mod idea, i hope you dont mind me "borrowing" it :)

i also ordered everything to try and make some kydex sheaths for fun. Id love a combo sheath for both the sp8, bk11, and a firesteel. I will probably take the belt loop drop part off the original sheath and add it to the kydex sheath. so that it still sits lower and adding it on would be as simple as folding the kydex over the d link type part and riveting it down.

I like this idea below but i would prefer to use the original drop leg on it plus it saves me from buying a tek lok or similar.

I'm really wanting an SP8. I've never owned an ontario but I've been drooling over them for probably 15 years and really believe you can't go wrong with them. I was about to pull the trigger on an RD9 but I found a used-"like new" RTAK II for ~$72 shipped from CRKS so I figured WTH.

I like the idea of reusing the dangler. I'll probably steal that one.

Have at. I don't care. I don't usually make things, i make things better !! Didn't BASF say something similar ? LOL :D

Whatever works for you. Personally, i find belt sheaths too restrictive when working. Drop-leg swivel. That is the ticket for me. All day comfort, without it poking you in the side. :D

Worldwood, I think you will be happy with your choice. I hope your SP-8 comes as sharp as mine did. SWMBO was kinda shocked when I unsheathed it and shaved my neck with it right out of the box.

Thanks to Amazon local delivery its here already. And it is a beast. I couldnt be happier with it and im glad i didnt spend the extra 30 on the bk3. this thing feels just as strong and quality seems on par... but next weekend i will test it against my friends bk3 to be more precise about comparing the two.

I went ahead and thru some ranger bands on the handle and now it feels more comfortable, i ran them up high on the handle in sections up to the blade. its not slipping now! and close choke cutting is way more comfortable on the hands now. i will be modding the sawback as well, but not until its tested as it is.

Unfortunetly they seperated my orders so im still waiting on the bk11 but its also sheduled for todays deliveries so once i get it and play a little i will get back here with pictures.

It wasnt quite sharp enough to shave, i tried a few times lol, but it was plenty sharp. i hacked thru a 2x4 (not many dead trees in philly) in my basement with ease. i compared it against a large machete and a small very sharp hatchet. i will leave both those home from now on as this does everything those did and more. I can easily throw an edge on it but i dont think it needs it. i dont plan on using it for shaving :)
it did slice cardboard rather easily but when i tried paper the thick blade ripped the paper a little but still cut it as a razor would. more than sharp enough for its intended purposes.

That was some quick shipping. I'm glad you like it. It really is a great piece of steel.

Yea im not far from one of Amazons warehouse, if i order before 8am i can get alot of stuff same day local delivery for only 3.99 shipping (amazon prime member).

And yes i love it, thanks.

Ok so i got the bk11 and its a great little knife. i love the shape. its a little small in the hands but i knew that before ordering it
i just prefer the shape over the bk14 even though that has a little longer handle.

it will be beauty and the sp8 will be beast, literally i want to engrave or burn beast into the back of the sheath on the leather of the sp8
and somehow mark the bk11 sheath as beauty. if i design a sheath for both maybe i could attach a small plaque or something saying beauty and the beast!

now ill get sued lol-

Ok how do i post pictures? it says at the bottom
