I got out for an overnighter last night... It was originally supposed to be me and a couple friends, but they bailed on me last minute.. So, I decided to head out solo....Brought the Havoc, the Slumberjack bivy, among other things. I also brought a few trout to grill up on the fire, and a couple plantains.

I left the house about 7pm, and headed to a spot thats about a 20 minute drive away. I threw on the pack and hiked on in. I was burnin daylight to get camp set up, firewood procured, and a fire lit so I am seriously lackin on pics. I had everything set up, goin, and trout grillin in around 30 minutes, just in time for the sun to go down.

I brought along my corona saw I scored from lowes, and I was damn impressed with its performance. It made short work of several fell cedar trees of various thisckness. The grip angle on the saw is very comfy, and the teeth are very sharp on the blade. For 19.99, hard to go wrong.

As usual, I also had my Gunny with me. Whar a great blade. IMO its perfect. It helped with the trout, the plantains, and various other chores such as stirring coffee, and some whitlin. Its becoming a very loyal companion in the backcountry.

The Trout was amazing. Stuffed em with butter, garlic, salt, pepper, and a bit of fresh chives. Wrapped em in foil and cooked em straight on the coals. Made for a tasty supper!!! I then put the guyot in the coals to make me up some water for a cup of tea, and loaded up a bowl of cavendash in the pipe.
A short time later I was slurppin some hot tea, puffin on my pipe, and listening to the Coyotes howl. Very peacefull time.

I decided to then turn in, I brought only my Bivy, a mexican blanket, and my thermorest. I had 5.11 pants, a tshirt and my Buff on, and was pretty hot at bedtime. I switched into my boardshorts, and in no time was asleep. I woke at dawn comfortable. Actually I was perfect. Not hot, not cold, just comfy. I couldve stayed asleep longer, but I knew I had stuff to do at home. I climbed out, had a great base of coals goin, so I used the Gunny to slice up some plantains and wrapped em up in foil with cinamon and sugar, and tossed em in the coals. While the were cookin, I made some coffee and broke camp and loaded up the pack. I sat, enjoyed a wonderfull breakfast of plantains and coffee, and soon was off and back at the truck headin home.

Not a bad way to spend the evening.

Heres the few pics I took.

Cool pics, and I like the idea of not letting your buddies' change of plans change yours. As far as the Gunny goes, something tells me it may have some competition in the very near future! ;)

Thanks Chris... Youre right bro, I think the Gunny might have some competition. :D

I was so into gettin out for an overnighter due to the weather being so nice, that nothing or nobody could stand in the way.

cheers..

J

great stuff Jake... i'm envious, i'm about due for a little woods time myself...:o and i need a Gunny too....:D

Thanks guys.... Somehow I ended up off all week, so Ive been hiking, and biking my ass off, and also got in this overnighter. Its been a great week. Im headed out in a bit to hit up some mountain bike trails....

Nice trip. Love my Gunny.

And what competition will it get in the near future? ;)

Sounds like you still had a good trip.

If you took your punk a$$ up here, I'm sure no one will bail on you last minute....

Guess im on my own for today.

No worries brother, I will make it out there. Just be delayed a few weeks. Sucks, but, chit happens huh??

I love getting on quick overnighters like that...and then being able to get up and return to your normal life like you slept in your bed that night. Longer trips are alot of fun, but it's nice to be able to escape for a little bit at a time too.

Sounds like a great time out in the woods. Time sure does fly when you are keeping busy though, doesn't it?

Oh well, as long as you had a good time ;)

Cool J - now I have never brought a trout out to the camping spot, it is usually the other way around :D This little solo (not olo) nights are really great for personal contemplation, sitting on the fire and thinking good thoughts.

Thanks guys... Its nice to reboot with some alone time once in awhile.

I also got to think pretty hard on what matters in the backcountry. One thing, comfort.... A pillow to lay my head. I dont need one really, but man it would be a nice creature comfort. What do you guys use?? anything?

Another, a towell. I gotta say, I scored a shamwow, and it makes a perfect pack towell.
