I got out for an overnighter last night... It was originally supposed to be me and a couple friends, but they bailed on me last minute.. So, I decided to head out solo....Brought the Havoc, the Slumberjack bivy, among other things. I also brought a few trout to grill up on the fire, and a couple plantains.
I left the house about 7pm, and headed to a spot thats about a 20 minute drive away. I threw on the pack and hiked on in. I was burnin daylight to get camp set up, firewood procured, and a fire lit so I am seriously lackin on pics. I had everything set up, goin, and trout grillin in around 30 minutes, just in time for the sun to go down.
I brought along my corona saw I scored from lowes, and I was damn impressed with its performance. It made short work of several fell cedar trees of various thisckness. The grip angle on the saw is very comfy, and the teeth are very sharp on the blade. For 19.99, hard to go wrong.
As usual, I also had my Gunny with me. Whar a great blade. IMO its perfect. It helped with the trout, the plantains, and various other chores such as stirring coffee, and some whitlin. Its becoming a very loyal companion in the backcountry.
The Trout was amazing. Stuffed em with butter, garlic, salt, pepper, and a bit of fresh chives. Wrapped em in foil and cooked em straight on the coals. Made for a tasty supper!!! I then put the guyot in the coals to make me up some water for a cup of tea, and loaded up a bowl of cavendash in the pipe.
A short time later I was slurppin some hot tea, puffin on my pipe, and listening to the Coyotes howl. Very peacefull time.
I decided to then turn in, I brought only my Bivy, a mexican blanket, and my thermorest. I had 5.11 pants, a tshirt and my Buff on, and was pretty hot at bedtime. I switched into my boardshorts, and in no time was asleep. I woke at dawn comfortable. Actually I was perfect. Not hot, not cold, just comfy. I couldve stayed asleep longer, but I knew I had stuff to do at home. I climbed out, had a great base of coals goin, so I used the Gunny to slice up some plantains and wrapped em up in foil with cinamon and sugar, and tossed em in the coals. While the were cookin, I made some coffee and broke camp and loaded up the pack. I sat, enjoyed a wonderfull breakfast of plantains and coffee, and soon was off and back at the truck headin home.
Not a bad way to spend the evening.
Heres the few pics I took.
