Looks like a great time. I know how you feel about buddies bailing. I usually go solo because my buds call me up last minute and can't make it. Oh well, like you say it gives you a good idea of what you need and what you can leave at home. It is peaceful too. The hardest thing for me on solo tirps (especially in winter) is getting bored when the sun goes down. It's hard to read or carve by candle or fire light but I manage. But it's usually a hurdle because I'm so revved up I can't sleep either.
