well over the past 2 weeks or so, i haven't been able to spend much time on the forums... this is where i have been spending a lot of my time lately....:D i have been here just about everynight for the past 2 weeks, with the exception of this past saturday.. the misses and i went to a wedding...

this is a little off topic i guess... but this is where i hang out the most...

my older son does a 6 week long (summer) theatre program... these shows are amazing... everything from the songs to the costums... they're all rock and roll musicals...
anyhow.. not only is a big rewarding commitment for the kids.. it for a lot of the parents as well..lately i have been spending just about every spare second helping with the production, as with many other parents... i come home and eat dinner and then go back and stay until midnight sometimes..it is an amazing small community oriented program... the volunteers are a huge part of it... all through high school and college.. i did a lot of theatre set design work... it's been great because i don't draw or paint nearly as much as i should..

these pics were taken tonight. after doing some more touch up work, for a few hours..these are just a fraction of the set.. though they are 16 x 20 triangular columns.. a.k.a. periactoids.. these things rock.. they are on wheels and have a scene on each side...these are are what i primarily worked on, along with some of the other stone work.. it was my self and an awesome painter/parent named wendi.. we also had a few other folks helping out with the background colors..

we have one tommorow night and it all has to be done by then... show opens on thursday... i'll be keeping you all posted...

nice painting job...i have been doing theatre since 6th grade..it paid for my undergraduate degree and is now paying for my masters degree...i do design work...

right on nate...:thumbup: that's awesome...

other last summer and this sumer..it's been a very long time since i've done any theatre work... and it's been years since i've gotten to paint anything this big... actually, one of the directors for this play. will also be directing the upcoming high school senior play... she has asked me to come and help out with that as well..

it was a lof of fun sketching this scene on here, from a little drawing given to me by one of the directors... it took me quite a while getting it to scale...

Mike that is very cool. Im glad to see parents actively involved with theirs and others kids. It sounds like a sweet way to spend the summer. My wife does alot of painting, and sculpture, I will have to post some pics of her work. I do a little sketching, and painting, but not as much as I used to.

Looks like a sweet set. I like your shroomage dude;)
 
Very cool. With my work I don't spend nearly enough time with the kids. It's great to see those that do.
My parents were there for everything when I was growing. I'm sure it made all the difference in the world.

nick that would be cool man... you should try and look into it..

they have 9 shows.. starting thursday-sunday and then starting up again on next wednesday-sunday.... you can get tickets online www.lprt.org

Oh wow, I would have thought there were more shows. I'll talk to the wife about it, maybe we'll be able to get a chance come watch.
 
Way to be involved! It says a lot to give up your time like that. Thanks for the great pics.
 
many thanks once again folks...:D tonight is ths last night for painting.. we have a bunch of finalizing touch up work to do and then it's show time... it all starts off with the dress rehersal tommorow night...:o
