My Pair of Grail Sebenzas!

The postman finally delivered two Sebenzas that I have been anxiously awaiting.

The first is a pre-production large P Sebenza with the marking "PP 3". You will notice the blade profile and the titanium slabs are slightly different than a production or "P" Sebenza. This knife came with a custom made leather sheath fabricated by Chris Reeve himself.

The second is a large P Sebenza with a unique graphic designed and produced by Chris Reeve.

Both have been on my wish list for a while and to get them at the same time was very fortunate.

Very nice. They look to be in great condition too. That thumbstud on the PP 3 looks really interesting. Jimping on the very top. Super duper Sebbies!

WOW! Those are sweet! I did not know that Chris did customs!

Nice, I notice that the PP model doesn't have a locating hole on the front handle slab, just like the H models. How thick are the handle slabs compared to the P model?

Great scores!

Thanks everyone...

The early unique decorated Sebenzas were designed and anodized by Chris. Once Lisa was hired, Chris eventually trained her to do all the designs and anodizing. At least that is my understanding.

The slabs appear to be the same thickness as a P Sebenza. I did not take calipers to them but from what I've heard the difference would be obvious. It's somewhat of a hybrid with no hole and normal slabs.

Oh dang! Congrats on a beautiful pair of knives! Definitely jealous!

Mike, however you found those museum quality pieces, I'm jealous. That PP looks to be an H in all respects that I can see, so I imagine that Chris hadn't quite gotten his first CNC machine up an running when he made that. The leading edge of the front slab is a little asymmetrical, which IMO is a small imperfection that would be consistent with a Handmade slab vs. a CNC shaped slab. Add in what our point-man James said about the missing tooling hole, and you've got yourself a special knife indeed.

edit - here's picture of H41 which shows similar a similar, but reversed, asymetrical leading edge on the front slab. Thx Dave

The UG P with Chris' artwork gets me right in the heart.

Wonderful additions to any CRK collection to be sure. Most excellent finds, my friend.

Congratulations on some great additions to your collection. I had never even heard of the PP before

To be honest, I had not heard of them either. It was the seller who educated me on their history. The knife actually came with a signed letter from Anne Reeve attesting to it's authenticity.

Steve, the interesting thing is that the seller contacted me in regards to a trade offer for a Hinderer XM-24. There was no trade but I ended up purchasing this pair of Sebenzas. As for the history, I believe your scenario must be true. The "PP" appears to be handmade but the slabs are made of the thinner titanium stock that was in the production models.

My thanks to James and Steve for their insightful observations. It is fascinating to learn about CRK history.

I was doing a little browsing in the images stickie. On page 1 there is a PP (no #) with a different style of inlay and regular style lockbar cut out on the scale. Anyone know the history on that? Maybe a pre production regular???

Hope owns two knives with that description, oval inlays on a regular handle. One mokume, one MOP. Maybe PP reg, maybe PP inlay, lets hope he chimes in with birthdates or some such thing.
