My Para bit me! (In back pocket)

This morning I was mowing the lawn when suddenly it hurt…er…down there…my first thought was that I had sat on a hornet. Then I realized that my Para had opened a bit in my back pocket and when I shifted with a turn it sliced me pretty good.

I thought that I had the pivot tightened enough to give it enough in handle retention that this wouldn’t happen I guess I was wrong. I’m a bit worried now though I really, really want another Military (I gave mine away to my cousin when he got deployed) and I keep thinking that with the larger blade this might even be more of a problem.

On a more humorous note when I couldn’t get the bleeding to stop or even slow down I called my girl friend (a nurse) and she came and took a look. Once she stopped laughing she said I needed stitches, I lost my health insurance so she did them for me. It took her 3 try’s cause every time she looked at it she’d start laughing so hard that she couldn’t see let alone keep her hand steady. In the end she was able to bite her tongue long enough to but in the (8) stitches and then drove away…still laughing.

Damn, that must have been a rude surprise.

If it's any consolation, I once dropped my Kershaw Tanto Blur on my big toe and it bled quite a bit. Luckily, I didn't need stitches.

I think you owe your girlfriend a nice dinner and a movie.

Wow, I have always wondered if my knife would open when in my back pocket, I guess now i have a confirmed story of it happening. Feel better.

stitches are for pussies haha jk man !!! i open myself up all the time at work but i choose the electrical tape method(electricians band-aid) lol good luck with that:)

if the compression lock on the para is like that of the salsa i can see why. unlike a midlock it doenst pull the blade into the closed position does it? my salsa sometimes opens when i retrieve it from my side pocket. i love the knife but sadly carry it less because of it. couldnt imagine an even bigger blade would help.

...the compression lock doesn't have it. :p

Proof, once again, of the superiority of midlocks. :D

Glad you got fixed up and didn't have to pay a bill! This is one reason why the midlock is my favorite spyderco lock. I usually carry clipped in the right front pocket, but sometimes, it goes in the pocket or inside the waistband or clipped in a large cargo pocket. The midlock is the only lock that seems capable of keeping the blade shut in all positions.

That's interesting! My Para had bitten me while I had it in my front pocket and I tried to reach for it when I needed it. I believe it is prone to open very easily. I have a substantial collection of Spyderco's and as much as I like this particular knife, it got me worried due to the ease that it unfolded while in my pocket. That's why I am carrying my Endura instead.

First they tell us that we can't have BB guns because " you'll shoot your eye out" now we can't have knives because " you'll cut your a$$ off" :D

my para bit me, it was my fault though. i didn't close her all the way and when I went to put her in my pocket, the tip of the blade went through my dickies, my boxers and right into my leg.

Pics? (no homo)

:p

I can just imagine the phone call.
"Hey hunny, could you get over here?.........I accidentally stabbed my ass"
"You stabbed your what? What were you doing?"

Not to be Freudian: "opened a but in my back pocket". I'm glad it work out "in the end".

Glad you're okay.

Don't pick at yer stitches!!

Those little nasty cuts are why man invented super glue......

The voice of reason!

I last time I had stitches was 4 from the Temp 2. I sliced myself pretty deep, and the only reason I didn't glue it was because it was in a high mobility area of my hand.

Superglue rocks for everything else.
