excellent trip report!

i found some staghorn sumac last year but was only able to reach one clump so never got to try making tea with it. i've seen several of your trip reports mentioning how good it is that i will eventually grab some! maybe i'll bring some ropes and climb that tree, haha.
 
You did a good job with the photography. Where exactly did you go? I also had not heard of tenkara until you used the word here.

Yes to a poncho even when you don't think you'll need it.

I made tea with sumac when I was a kid. Not something that I find particularly thrilling. But then, you were on a foraging weekender.

Always soak it within COLD water and filter out the floaters.

Thanks! I thought there could be a need for the poncho but as part of my reduced gear outing left it home however wouldn't normally do this. I partake in Sumac lemonade every year. Really like it but to each their own. The camp was within a short walk from a long blue trail in CT but I keep the exact locations of my favorite spots to myself.
