My Problem With Pocket Clips

My problem with pocket clips is that I sometimes bend them. I did this with my Victorinox Sentinel over the weekend. It was clipped in my pocket and caught on a fence post as I squeezed past. Tried bending it back into place with no luck. Since it is not attached with screws, replacement is not an easy option.
I have done the same thing with Benchmade deep carry clips on a Griptilian, at least they are easily replaced. Other pocket clips that have survived similar rough treatment with no problem include Benchmade Griptilian standard clips, Spyderco Endura and Pacific Salt "spoon" clips, and Cold Steel gen2 Voyager clips.
Looks like I will probably replace the scales on this one with red 111mm scales and use it without a clip. Is Swissbianco still selling them?

After near 60 years of carrying pocket knives, I'm used to knives loose in the bottom of my pocket.
The few knives I tried with pocket clips, the clip created a hot spot during extended use. (The last one was pushed out of my pocket never to me seen by me again, while riding my bicycle. Another legitimate reason not to like clips.)
I also find a knife held vertical in my front pocket has a tendency to poke me in the leg, which I find uncomfortable and distracting.

I decided years ago, that unless I'm going to clip the knife in my strong side boot, it will not have a clip.
Also, I prefer multi-blade traditional pocket knives. A clip on those is just "wrong", IMHO.

What he said. And I would never, ever “deploy” a knife.

I’ve bent plenty of clips myself. I actually snagged the clip on a Spyderco Native LW while climbing off of a forklift at work and popped it completely off the knife. Clips are nice to have but they can be a nuisance at times.

I still prefer to have a clip vs. having the knife horizontal at bottom of pocket. Just want one that is secure and not easily bent. The Spyderco Endura clip is my favorite so far. Agreed that clips look wrong on traditional folders.

Just did this on Monday. I've v
Bent and broken several Spyderco and other manufacturers clips.

Like specgrade said, put something under that , and then bend it back. I recommend using the shank of a drill bit. It's easy to find the right size that way. You will probably need to oversize the bit a little, so that you have room to over-bend the clip. You will want to place the bit right before where, that bend starts.

O.B.

Dang, that was painful to look at. Any luck bending it back?

Like gull wing gull wing suggested, IWB with your shirt untucked should help prevent this. I personally do appendix IWB in non-knife friendly environments. However, this arguably isn’t as comfy as side pocket carry.

I guess I'm the outlier. I won't carry a knife without a clip and I've never bent one (yet).
:) I totally agree !

I consider the pocket clip to be a great advancement . One of the most important in my lifetime .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Keeps the knife in place , easy to hand rather than lost somewheres in the bottom of your pocket .

I've never bent one in 40 or so years , except the ones I purposely adjusted to fit .
