Few projects I'm working on.

This is my first blade. This one is ready for heat treat. Blade is shy over 10". OAL is about 18". Handle may still get refined a little more still; not sure.

My mothers Favorite kitchen knife. It is very crappy kitchen knife had the handles rotting/rusting off. But I told her I would fix it for her.

I dipped in muratic acid to remove bad rust and then parkerized it.

Blades are OK, but you might want to work a bit more on the handles.



TIP:
When designing/shaping a blade - ask yourself, "What function does this or that feature serve?"

If it has no real function, ask, "Would it be as good or better without it?"

On your first blade, the big dip in the spine does not seem to have any use beyond a "Rambo" factor. The blade would be better looking ( in my opinion), stronger, and have more chopping power if the spine had been left straight. The dip creates a point of weakness in the blade, too. It is a big beefy blade, so breaking at that point isn't likely, but it is the weakest point.

Same for the high swept Persian tip on knife #2. Is it going to be used for only delicate skinning? If not, that tip is likely to fail and break off in use. If it is a skinner, the whole knife is too large unless you hunt moose.

Thanks for the critiques. Any suggestions on the handles? The big blade has the dip just cause I like the way it looked like that. Yes I agree it is a weak spot but I don't see it breaking as big as it is, or atleast I hope not lol.

The small skinner is for my brother. He told me all he would be doing is skinning animals with it. I personally think the size is ok, I've used similar sized knives in skinning. Smaller could have worked better but too late now!

Finished this knife for my mom. First time for me putting handles on and I need so practice lol but learned a lot. Definitely a failing job here but it works.
