I've been looking for a knife even smaller than a JKM that I could carry as a "dangler". Even a JKM looks big to some folks and I didn't want go around town "armed to the terror of the public". So I thought a puukko with about a 3 or 3 1/2" blade would be a nice little fixed blade that would be "cute" rather than scary. I was succesful.;) I was tickled when I found 3 1/2" puukko on ebay that looked nice. Made in 1952, it's just a year older than I am. And it was affordable, just $21. Some scandinavian knives can get pretty expensive. Here's a picture.

Here's a picture when I received it just now. OHHHHHHHHHH. 3 1/2 inches overall!!!! :foot: :foot: :foot:

Now I can't complain about the seller. He said it was a miniature boot knife, and he didn't say it had a 3 1/2" blade. I just read what I wanted to hear. Thought you guys would get a kick out of it!

That's awful, Steve. My sympathies.

Nobody's laughing; in fact that really s_cks.

Kellam (Finnish puukos & leukos) has a wonderful web site; it's one of my favorite time-waster, they have so many beautiful things Finnish.

But they also have a tiny knife "charm;" at 2" was wondering if that's what this was.

I hate/avoid/don't use ebay. :thumbdn:

Click there for what you were looking for...

then get it from good 'ol Ragnar for same price but faster shipping.

Mike, it's really not awful. I've gotten many many incredible bargains on Ebay. There wasn't a thing intentionally misleading in the description. It was completely true. I just assumed it was what I wanted.:D

It's so funny, I'm still grinning as I write this. :)

Ragnar has wonderful stuff and I will probably buy one of his. I just like old knives. Kellam is beautiful but pretty expensive.

Come on man, it's FUNNY! LOL

Steve

Question: Do you have a G.I. Joe?

If so, he just got a whoppin' big new sword.

:D :foot:

Mike

Well, you still got what you were looking for: a knife that won't strike terror into the hearts of the public at large... ;)

It's good to be able to laugh at yourself about these sorts of things. At least it wasn't an expensive joke.

Well, I think it is rather cute..........sort of looks like a chili pepper. ;)

hi steve,

i've snagged a similar pair:

mini.jpg

they're actually useful, both are razor sharp & easy to maintain so. i keep the stag one on the computer desk, and the little woodie one on my workbench for cutting small stuff where a more delicate approach is needed. hard to tell from the photo that the woodie has a whoppin' great 2.5 in. blade & the other 2.0 in. - kinda like purty x-acto knives.

i'm keeping my eyes peeled on ebay for the bigger brother to yours, hopefully one with the metal trim to the scabbard (& just a bit bigger) i've seen & missed a few over the last few months.....gonna be reeely careful readin the descriptions tho...

That's still pretty cool though! Very unique and well....uhmm...cute...

I'm looking at a miniature Eriksson on E-Prey right now myself...

I just finished a 3.5 inch bladed Puuko today....infact the epoxy is still setting as we speak...lotsa fun to make! (This one is absolutely gorgeous too...Maple Burl handles make even crude Neanderthals such as myself look like master craftsmen)

I've got a couple Brusletto Trolls that are really beautiful too. (too beautiful to use, infact)

Currently I'm trying to resist the Jarvenpaa Aito pictured here:

And you have seen Ragnars new line haven'tcha?

http://www.ragweedforge.com/AhtiCatalog.html

Criminy....I'm pathetic...I've already got about one hundred too many Scandanavian style knives, and here I am flirting with the idea of getting more...

And then there's the Helle Viking over at Ragnars....I'm real tempted to pick one of those up myself, inspite of my not being a big fan of laminate steel.

Sorry to go off on a rant there....Just have a serious love affair with those things for some reason I can't yet figure.

Steve?

The BALDER from Ragweed is a decent little knife. Small, only 5" overall, but razor sharp, and nicely sheathed.

Here's description:
The Balder a neat little utility knife. The 2" blade makes a handy paring or carving knife. The short grip allows you to palm the blade for chip carving. It comes with a simple leather sheath and unpolished stainless blade. The length overall is about 5", and it would make a neat neck knife or patch knife. There is no box.
These are priced with the Swedes at only $18

Hurry, though. You NEED another knife!

be well and safe.

Don't feel too bad, I did the exact same thing with a very similar knife. :o It's a very nice Puuko with a birch bark handle, but it's a miniature too. I didn't read the description well enough either. I wonder if we bought them from the same dealer?

These are two of my most frequently used knives...

Oh Steve, that is funny:D That little sucker makes the JKM look like a foot long croc killer:) I did the same thing for a work knife at work that wouldn't scare the customers too bad (back when i thought they would care what i was packing...they don't). I just took a karda from one of my khuks..maybe from my WWII? ..and thinned the edge down to an absolute razor. Great little knife that is stout as all get out:thumbup: Speaking of which, maybe i need to make a lil' sheath for it and carry it again...hmmm;)

I love these little knives. There is a guy in the makers section that forges really beautiful tiny knives. Dan may know who I'm talking about. They are GREAT and as soon as I've got the $ I'm getting one.

Funny stuff Steve. I love ebay for that very reason. Sometimes its a suprise. Sometimes good, sometimes bad, sometimes just dang hilarious.

There is a great collector interest in these miniature Scandi's. I'm surprised it went at that price.

jmings - The top is a Bark River Knife & Tool Micro Slither...A2 steel, over a hundred handle choices, razor sharp convex edge from the box. Mike Stewart (Mr. Bark River) used to be a designer and Vice P in charge of knife operations for Marble's when they were in the *real* knife business. It's an awesome little cutter and strong as all get out. I *highly* recommend them! The bottom one is a hand made by Louis Vallet, 82 Palm Drive, Bay Point, Key West, Florida, 33040, (305) 745-1044. Small, inconspicuous, a razor edge hollow grind...a real beauty.

They both will cut and serve far out of proportion to their size and look. Sorry I don't take better pictures!

Steve,
I know it isn't what you expected, but I think it's pretty neat. A scandi karda! How cool is that? I'd love to get some laminated scandi blades in that size and put them into traditional nepali handles. I had a little trade knife (3" blade) that I got as a karda replacement and it was just a bit too big (perfect necker though, and razor sharp). Looks just like the small one in this pic:

Wound up giving it to a pal.
