My rediscovery of grivory.....

So, with every new becker I get, a new set of scales shortly follows, whether wood or micarta. Until today. I was grinding off the thumb ramp on the 10 (since after some use i realized the choil and the trumb ramp seemed redundant and uncomfortable) and while doing that i decided to throw the bocote scales i made on the 9 and liked the feel, so i thought heck ill just throw the grivory back on the 10 until either the scales Oregon made me arrive, or until i make some more of my own. Then it happened. The grivory lay on her and i had an epiphany.....holy crap does it make her sexy....but how does it feel?....so i bolted it up and it was like a rush of awesomeness....the feeling of a knife in my hand from a past life.....boy how i missed that good ole grivory feeling...how did i ever stray down the wrong path and give up on it completely? boy have i learned my lesson and i think the 10 is keeping the grivory. Anyone else that has had micarta for too long try the grivory again and really enjoy it? post up your comments, pics opinions or whatever. Here are todays pics

I really like grivory. Super comfortable on a hard use knife and rarely makes hot spots.
That clip point is calling me man....

I like the grivory as well. Don't care for the micarta so much. Looks nice, btw.

I also learned just how hard it is to take the hex nuts out of micarta that have been in there for a while

CLIP POINT! CLIP POINT! CLIP POINT! i think it makes it look badass, not that its not now, but the swedge didnt do it for me, then i ground to a spear point and still wasnt happy. its lines are stellar with it, i have not one regret

That was a BK9 shaped sig, with a BK2 as the 1 in 81. Just something different for awhile. I'll put it back before too long.

I used my 7 almost solely with micarta for 1 and a half seasons, then when I got my 2 used the grivory again and really like it. I think it fits some blades better than others. Try it on your 9 and see if it's just good on smaller blades. If so I'm doubly excited for those tweeners.

Once you have the micarta off, run the bolt through just that slab that has the nuts in them, run it through until the threads are just about out, then just tap the bolt head. It took me a while to figure that out. WTH, I don't know, I just sat there and done it one day. Said to myself, "Self, that was easy, you should tell others about that". So, I did.

Sounds alot easier than my method of running the bolts into the nuts and pulling with a chanel locks

That 9 and 10 look sexy without the ramp! Might have to do that to my 9, if only I was confident enough to strip and patina it as well.

Yeah, I screwed up a pair of Micarta getting the nuts out of the handle. There's really no way to type that, and it not sound dirty. I tried, several times. That's what I got.

is that the grivory that came with the 10, i.e. the camillus grivory, or kabar grivory you had from a different becker blade? just curious b/c a few ppl seem to have said that the grivory coming with the limited run 10s is a bit rougher than kabar's.

i have no clue to be honest.....all the grivory gets thrown in an old kabar box with any hardware i have. i dont even know if they are from the same set

I had to keep upgrading the box. started out with a bk11 box, now i have 2 large ones from the kabar kuk (may she rest in peace with her new owner :( ) and the bk9 that hold all the grivory, stock sheaths i dont use, and any misc stuff along the way. Its handy as hell and beats digging through ALL of my knife crap to find a spare becker part

As mentioned before by Moose in another thread & I agree that Cam griv is shite! Ka-Bar version much better TBH.

I also learned just how hard it is to take the hex nuts out of micarta that have been in there for a while
Remove the screw and screw it in to the nut from the nut side and wiggle back and forth while pulling. Or did you try that and the nut was just super stuck?
