I like to take the dogs for their little bush walk on Saturdays and today was no difference. We lost all our wonderful snow from last week. Ground is frozen, but the snow is gone. Apparently it will be 7oC tomorrow and rain coming on Monday. I'm gunning for the snow to come back.

The nice thing about the forest this time of year is that it is much easier to bushwack off the trails without all the greenery smacking you in the face. I kept running across a bunch of forts/shelters made by kids. I know they are forts because of the proximity of this little patch of bush to the suburbs. I highly doubt anybody actually camps out around these parts.

The above one was designed by Jamie Taylor. How do I know????

Actually, I've come across Jamie's work a number of times. He has a fondness for leaving his signature in places. He is probably a cool little wilderness dude. Not so many kids like that these days, at least in this neighborhood. So it is good to see. My thoughts go out to - I wonder what he carved his name with????

Todays cutlery carry option was my JK Kephart and Breeden Peacemaker. Now, the JK still has that new knife smell so I don't dare leave it behind on a little trip quite yet. It was time for the peacemaker to come along for the ride.

Like the JK, the peacemaker was the recipient of a little stropping effort and convexing it. It cuts beautifully!

Now for the kit review. This is my all purpose bag. It comes to work with me as it serves as a laptop carry case. It has a compartment that holds my SLR (Nikon D50). I also have it carrying my PSK kits and a bunch of misc stuff. This bag generally goes where I go and things shuffle in or out of it depending on the activity I'm engaged in. The PSK materials pretty much always stay in there.

I'm probably one of the only people who carry an Altoids Tin so that I can carry Altoids Mints :D

This is the first aid Kit - in the lock-lock walley world container

Also have a separate little drug kit. I ended up separating it from the first aid kit, mainly because I ended up finding that I use them independently. I need drugs, well when I need drugs. I need first aid kit mainly for wounds etc.

As you can see my guts aren't in the best of shape....

When my wife comes along, I usually bring her epi-pen also as she is allergic to different things.

This is the fire/shelter/water kit. It comes along with my stainless steel water bottle (A goyot knockoff).

There is a lot of redundant firemaking things in here. There are a few additional items that could be added. Duct tape is one of them.

Along with the above kits I also have a bunch of things tucked in little nooks and crannies around this bag.

Okay, okay - why the heck would I have a hairbrush and dental floss??? Well this is an urban kit so sometimes I just gotta look good for all the ladies :D

Back to some knife porn

That is strange...I got home and realized I didn't even take a shot of my two mutts. Well you will just have to take my word for it that they did come along and had a good time while we were out there.

What was in that flagoon???? Glenlivet - 12 year old. Sometimes I bring coffee, sometimes I bring scotch. Today was a scotch day!

Looks like a fun trip, the Kephart looks great. I have always wanted to make it up to canada as I have only been to Ft Erie, and thats a very little slice of Canada. Great pics.

I'm very jealous of you Kgd, just across the river from you I'd have to drive about an hour to get to anywhere where there is still woods around. (Without crossing the border that is). I also carry altoids in my altoids tin, although I prefer the little square sugar free ones.

Great pics as always kgd. I would love to see your area sometime in person. It might happen if I ever get cought up on bills. LOL but until that time please keep the pics comming. LOL

Bryan

Thanks guys, but I'm like many of you. When I want to really get into a forest then I have to travel. Actually Michigan has the closest real forests to me. Bryan, maybe sometime in the future I might actually come and visit your shop given my wife is from St. Paul, MN and sooner or later I will have to spend another couple of weeks with the inlaws!

look good for the ladies...... pfft:D sure Ken:D
have you used 150 mg Zantec, they work much better, I think there subscriptions based, but my Ulcer gave me ample cause for them.

Great pictures as usual! It`s good to see I`m not the only one who stills carries Maglites. I just picked up another LED one, Lowes had them for $10.

Actually all the antacid tabs is a bit of an older habit for me. But as this also acts as a travel kit, there is nothing that makes you more miserable then when you are out and abroad somewhere and have a bad case of heartburn or any GI-troubles for that matter. For me, diet and weight control are strongly linked to whether I get heartburn. I have the 10lbs line of weight that I fluxuate and when I get on the high side I tend to have problems. I reconciled that this is my bodies way of saying stick to the lower weight.

John,

I still really like the maglights. I did buy all the LED converter kits for my existing ones which can be 2/3 the cost of the flashlight themselves. However, the LED conversion kit is definitely worth it. The only one I can't find is for the micro-mags. I even have my 4-D mag converted to a LED. I'm really curious to know who long that puppy will last! Hey, I know everyone out here has these fancy-dancy flashlights. But I still like my mags.

Great pics and gear.

Rigtht on, I love my MagLites and have led converter kits for a few of them.
Is there a LED converter kit for the TL-122? I love that light...:o

Peter

Thats all I own is Mag Lights. I carry a micro and small SAK around my neck on a chain. I have a mini mag and a SA rucksack on my side all the time and a Native in my pocket. I love mag lights. I also have a bigger one beside my bed. I love the bag you carry. It gives me a good Idea to do the same. Thanks for the pics.

I used to love my Mini Mags, but no more. I use my flashlight every day at work (service technician). When the Nite Ize conversions came out, I switched to them and when Mag brought out their own AA LED, I bought one of those. The amount of light was fine, but they all get intermittent.

I used to disassemble them and clean the points of contact, but they still kept screwing up. I hate anything that doesn't work the way you want it to. I switched to a Fenix L2D on the recommendation of ROCK6 and have been very pleased.

I guess, if you only use them once in awhile, they are fine (although my factory LED wasn't ), but using them every day brings out their weakness.

Doc

Thanks for the info Doc. I'll try to put my mini through a more rigorous test. Admittedly, when I know I'm going to be doing prolonged night work, I switch to a headlamp....

Here was my little stropping project this afternoon. I'm starting to curse this stropping technique....Too many edges to deal with! This pathfinder has always managed to get a bit sharper then everyone else...
