My Scrapper 5's are here!!!

I think you'll never find people agreeing on which design elements are good and which are bad - I, for example, love the thumb ramp, but dislike the shallow, square choil. KGD likes the choil but not the thumb ramp. Change either one, and you make one of us like the knife more, and one of us like it less. It's just the nature of things.

The S5 is a very cool knife, and if you like it, you like it. No one is forcing anyone to buy it.

I'm personally really hoping the LE version will be full flat ground, which should change the balance a fair bit, for those who don't like the blade heavy balance.

I'm the thumb ramp critic. It isn't a deal breaker for me, but I think the knife would be better without it.
Knifeguy's post in your thread at Scrap Yard was fabulous, kgd. I can't count the number of times he and I have agreed on mods. And the mods he's considering making on his S5 are no exception.

Teah I just read it. It was a very good and informative description of mods for improvements to the S5.

Funny thing is, I had already contacted Vic about removing the thumb ramp on my S5 before I read Knifeguy's post. I also sent a PM to Knifeguy. I'm waiting to hear back from them. So it may only be a matter of time before my thumbramp goes the way of the dinosaurs . . . :)

Update: Vic and I made arrangements to remove the thumbramp and polish the spine on my S5. I'll post pics when I get the knife back.

Hat's off to Vic for transforming a good knife into a great knife.  :D

Wow those are really cool knives, I' ll definately have to get myself one of those...as soon as I can afford it:foot:

kgd removed the thumbramp on his Scrapper 5 and posted pics in the Scrap Yard forum. I'll leave it up to him to decide whether he wants to post pics here, too. Looks like we now have two big fans of ramp free spines.

Sorry for the bump, but MAN, would I love to know the logic behind the shallow/squared design of the choil on this one.

I havent had any problems with it so far. To be honest I havent even used the choil too much...

Already have an S5 LE made of INFI. Nice blade. Will likely be removing the thumb ramp because the tip naturally falls right in the middle of my thumb tip. As for the choil, I'll likely deepen it and grind down the leading edge just a smidge so as not to cut myself when gripping it hard. Will also need to convex the edge a bit more.
