My first ever custom knife just showed up here, courtesy of Shawn (SDS). Wow! It is awesome! I have wanted a Nessmuk for several years, but was never quite moved enough to go forward on the ones available. A few months ago I saw a picture of one that Shawn made for another forumite, and I had to have one for myself; to my eye, it was the most aesthetically pleasing and faithful to the original pattern.
I am camera-less at the moment, so this link will have to do for now. Mine is near the bottom of page 1:

Shawn was attentive and pleasant to deal with, always staying in contact and seeking input as well as offering suggestions. The price was surprisingly reasonable as well as the turn around time.
The steel is 1/8" 154cm, and the handle is curly maple. The bead matching the handle material is a neat touch. The blade is about 4" and shaving sharp. I like that it has a decent point to the tip as well as the characteristic hump and belly of the pattern. The handle is large without feeling bulky and pleasantly hand-filling. The provided sheath is a simple pouch-style, which suits the traditional knife, and is very thick and substantial.
I have not had a chance to do anything with the knife yet, but I'll be sure to post about its performance when I do, and I'll try to arrange some pictures.
I have not been this excited about a knife in a long time. In spite of the elegant look of the knife, it is clearly a tool begging to be used long and hard. I intend to do so. Thanks and kudos to Shawn/SDS Knifeworks for producing such a masterpiece of a tool!
