I had some problems after taking it apart for a cleaning. The pivot lug would not come off no matter what. I finally managed to do it but not with putting a slight gouge on it. I put it back together again but couldn't get it right and that's when I said the heck with it.

I was going to send it back to have dual thumb lugs installed anyway so this is going to work out well. What do you guys think? Dual silver thumbstuds and what else?

There are some slight scratches on the blade so I guess I can have it re-tumbled. The scales are fine as they are as they are lightly polished, just the way I like them. Anything else you guys can think of while it's there?

That's a great idea, but do they actually do that?

I don't see why they wouldn't. They can polish a blade or tuble it just the same. It's a safe bet to assume that S35VN is being pushed out in this years Lrg. Sebenzas and Umnumzaans.

I tried calling them today but they are closed on Fridays. I'll try again on Monday. What do you guys think, is it worth $129 bucks just to bump up to S35VN? There's nothing wrong with the existing blade other than a few minor scratches.

I wouldnt pay $129 just to switch the blade to s35v. I would just get a new
sebenza with the new steel. Otherwise youll have an extra s30v blade just
sitting around.

I don't think it is worth it to upgrade to the new steel if there is nothing wrong with your existing blade and who knows in a few years the S30v Sebbies might be worth more.

By the way, mine already has perforated washers.

Anyway, I forgot to ask, I'm thinking silver for the DB thumbstuds. That's just my personal prference; but I'm curious, what is the consensus here among CRK afficionados? Blue or silver?

I prefer the double silver. I have a couple Sebs there right now for that very treatment, and some new steel.:D

Antony,

I know from prior threads you and I have similar taste. So you're going with the upgrade to S35VN? I'd like to hear your thoughts on it. . .

I've only owned one other knife in S35V, and I was very pleased with it. Well 2 knives, one I sold with out using. The other S35V seemed to me to hold a better edge than any other random S30V knife I owned. I was'nt making direct comparisons though, just seemed that way.

If the blade scratches are an aggravation then tumbling the one you have seems the way to go IMHO. I've got an S35VN Mule and large Sebenza 21 and they don't seem any different than good old S30V.

They're running them both at 58-59 Rc anyway and S30V is a proven steel and not worth the money of getting a replacment IMO.

Anything else? Maybe a syringe of grease, and an extra pivot lug....lol :) but really, I wonder how that got so tight to bind on you?

I just cleaned one that's never been cleaned before and it was tight as heck (tolerance wise) but it slid right off?

The knife I cleaned was supposed to be a couple of months old but the grease in the pivot was black like tar - I couldn't even wipe it off. I used a soft plastic brush and some Comet to get the pivot and washers cleaned up. Not sure if I'm going to be using the CRK grease. Militec-1 was used to reassemble it.

In the note I enclosed with the knife I asked for a tube of CRK grease. I've been using Bench Made Blue Lube and am very happy with it but figured I'll give the CRK grease a try.

I don't know why that lug was so tight either. Definately something weird there. At any rate, it's being taken care of now so I'm not worried about it.

Cool news BP Green. Did you get your blade re-tumbled and the dual silver lugs? They look nice. Post a couple of pics when it gets back home.

Thanks, that's the plan. Retumbled blade and dbl silver thumbstuds. I'll post a before and after when I get it back. I'm almostnas excited as if I was waiting for a new one. Maybe I'll get one of those new lanyards too! :)

Funny I just bought a new small 21 micarta and it had the exact same problem. I've owned a dozen sebenzas and this is a new one for me. The pivot screw was stuck in the bushing, I had to push really hard to get it out. I tried sliding it back in and it got stuck again and this time it was stuck for good and I coudln't get it back out. Sent it in last week.
