My Sebenza went through the washer and dryer.

Starch ;)

Or, if it's working fine, just use it for a while until maintenace time. If anything, just add a bit of lubricant (CR grease, tuf-glide) to the moving parts and wipe off the blade with some tuf-glide.

I don't think a wash cycle should hurt any decent knife. My Spyderco Native has been through the drink several times. One drop of oil to the pivot makes it good as new. Wood is something you don't want to expose to water, however. Still, knives should be able to handle a wash and dry cycle or two...or three.

Well, I disassembled the Sebbie, cleaned it up, "waxed" it up with some Chain Wax and put it back together again. It's good as new. :) Chain Wax is a lube for motorcycle chains, and I just happen to have a LOT of it laying around. It's designed to not collect grime, yet lubricate. It's really good stuff, plenty good for a knife I'm sure.

I wouldn't worry about it, I think all of my EDCs have went through the wash at some point.

Every knife that has spent any time in my pocket has probably gone through the wash a time or two. The only problem is that they're really hot if you grab one fresh out of the dryer... sort of like grabbing a metal button or zipper right after the dryer stops, only bigger.

For lube try one drop of Dexron automatic transmission fluid. Don't laugh, it is one of the finest lubricants made for precision mechanisms.

I'm surprised it doesn't look worse. The washer is one thing, but you're saying it went through the dryer too? I'm surprised that nobody heard it banging around in the dryer.

Yep, it went through the full cycle of both machines. It was still securely clipped to my pants pocket afterward too, which is why only the clip has white on it from the dryer interior.

Love those sebs! Great thread! I am not surprised it did not rust. S30V is quite rust resistant. but I am glad to see the wood is still in great shape!

I've run plenty of knives through the wash/dry cycle. Doesn't seem to harm them, (except for some natural materials.) I think the worst laundry mistake I've made is running a BIC lighter through the dryer. Surprised I didn't blow the place up.

Most knives should be fine. My girlfriend has a bad habit of putting paper napkins and tissues in her pocket and forgetting about them. They're a pain in the rear end when they go through the wash.

Giving it some thought, I did wash a Spyderco Endura some time ago and it came out a little gritty from the detergent. I just dropped it in a bowl of hot water and blew it out with some compressed air. Normally I wouldn't have really cared, but since the Endura doesn't have washers or liners, I didn't want the FRN around the pivot getting scratched by the debris.
