My Second Forged Blade - Tell Me What You Think

I really like the textured blade flats with the mesquite. Nice wood, nice match.

Ya know, i read somewhere that that shape is the absolute best for chopping... I think the kukri was okay but your shape beat em all. Looke great, I wish I could forge like that!

Great work! NEEDS PINS. 9 times out of 10 a nice set of mosaic pins or some nice brass pins will really accent a wood handle and make it MUCH more noticeable.

Good looking knife and awsome wood. I would not trust epoxy by itself on a full tange knife. Any flexing, sometimes even humidity shrinking/expanding is enough to break the glueline. Best to think of the epoxy as a moister seal and use pins, better if there piened for heavy duty work, though roughed up and epoxed in there fine for most jobs.

Very cool. I hope I take to forging a quickly as you have. Where did you find that big piece of steel you are using for your anvil. Is that a Lively design and did you use his forge design also? Enough questions I guess. Way to go!

The anvil and forge are indeed Lively inspired. The steel is a piece of 4140, 10" long and 8" in diameter, set in a 5 gallon bucket so that 4" extends above the top of the bucket. The steel is set in cement reinforced with chicken wire.

Here is a pic of my forge set-up -
