So I finished up my second knife a month or so ago, with this one I wanted to try a few things. I decided to give this knife to a friend of mine who just retired from his career as a game warden so I got a hold of some old uniform work pants and shirts and tried my hand at making mycarta for the handle material. I gave it to him at his retirement party and told him to make sure to send me some photos from the first time he uses it hunting. The knife is approx 71/2" overall and the blade is around 3", the steel is a D2 planer blade. I was going for a smaller caper/skinner style of blade. I hand finished the blade and handle to 600 grit and buffed the handle with a strip of denim loaded with polishing compound. I aslo made the sheath and set it up for vertical and horizontal carry for a southpaw as that is what my friend is. Here are some pics any feed back and suggestions are welcome.

That is impressive. The idea of using old uniforms to make micarta gives the knife a very personal touch. Nice work! I would be proud to have a knife like that.

He had the greatest job in the world... In my opinion anyway. He'll be proud to have that and having the handle made from uniform items will be a fantastic reminder of his career.

Thanks! I don't know how well the my carat will stand up I used marine grade epoxy fibreglass epoxy but time will tell. It is just a fun side project to add a little personal touch there are so many aspects to knife making that I want to try.
