This was made by request with gut hook and serration for a friend of mine that is a big deer hunter. Walnut scales, brass pins, thong hole liner is a .308 shell casing, 1095 steel.

Looking good, and a good use of the .308. Might want to round the edges a bit more on the next, but looks like you've mastered the bevels and putting a gut hook and serations. Outstanding job.

I like the look. I'd give the handle a bit more shape, too, but possibly not depending on the scale and the user's hands. The shell casing is cool.

Really nice job on the serrations

very cool. thats so similer to a knife i just made for a friend, he wanted a gut hook and serrations, and 12 ga. brass inlayed in the handle. but he just wanted it to look scary, not for hunting. i like yours more :) .308 is a cool round.

I'm going to see him this weekend and my plan was to let him try it out and then shape it to his hand. One of his requests was a large handle so I wanted to leave some meat on there.

That is a very nice knife. I too like the use of a 308 shell. A neat trick for another project might be to use a case head on each side with the primer pockets bored out to .25" for the lanyard hole.

Very nice knife, great job on the gut hook and serrations, your friend will be pleased.

I have seen it done that way and it looks great. It also keeps you from always answering the question...."Why is the thong hole so big?"
Really nice job on the blade. A little blocky though on the handle, as was already stated.

That is your second knife:eek:, I realy suck!!!
I can't grind anything close to that!!!!
My stuff looks like a blind guy with turrets had a go at a grinder!!!:barf::barf:

I am trying to figure out what to do besides burn up bar after bar of steel!!!
I am thinking about making up a jig but I am not sure how it will work.

That is a very nice knife!!!!!

I do not use a grinder for my bevels. File only. I use the grinders for profiling and flattening mostly and on the scales of course.

I used a 6 inch bench grinder, files, and sandpaper for my first several knives. take the time to do the hand filing.
