My Second Sheath Ever!

Hey you old mater-gravy eating fella! :D

I was thinking once the dye and the bag-kote gets here tonight it'll take care of those smudges. We'll see. Hey also, do you think rubbing ouchy-hol will clean it a little if I use it to deglaze?

Ya might get lucky, but in my limited experience, the sheath needs to be "CLEAN" (did I say "CLEAN"?) Those "smudgies" tend to leave a dark spot when the sheath is dyed.

I have tried "Ouchy-hol", and "Ass-E-Tone", and even "Licquor-Thinner", but nothing seems to work as well as good old "Wood Bleach" to remove the "Smudgies".

Dang.......Why did you have to mention "Mater-Gravy"....Now I got a cravin' flung on me...........Jeez........

Yeah I'll have to pick up some of that wood bleach, then again maybe I'll 'age' the sheath? Hmm...

Good morning, Gentlemen. Here are four photos of the finished sheath, two with flash and two without, hopefully to capture the details for your scrutiny. Please... be critical. I think it looks good so far, but there are flaws. Masta Burrows likes his sheaths a little aged-looking, and the little nicks and smudges may just add to that. I guess I am looking for confirmation that this sheath is okay to send out. Please advise.

It's Fiebings light brown oil dye. Its what I had available. I ordered stain from Zack White Co. They screwed the pooch on my order, and did not get it in time. I swear... some companies haven't got a clue. I think someti...

Gah! Sorry... I have made a no-rant resolution for 2006. :p

Yuppa. Lt brown dye and Bag-Kote. Next one, I'll try to avoid nicking the belt loop so much. I may have gotten it a little too wet when forming it.

Looks great to me Higgy. What did you use to dye it? By that I mean, wool daubers, cotton balls, spray ?

You sure got your money's worth from Chuck's DVD.

if you take a wornout 400 or 600 grit belt and burnish the edges. Put the belt on your KMG, turn ot on full spead and really lay into it,
you can make them smooth as glass.

I keep trying to get the edge smooth, but the finer I get the more I burn the leather, and that's on a sharp 320 grit. How do you do it?

I agree....ship it! Lookin' good. I wish I had some tiem to dedicate to leather work. Ive been trying to get the GF to take it up as a hobby by dangling the "ill give you some money every time a knife sells" carrot in front of her....I'd loe to be able to say "hey baby, whip up a wheath for this by Friday"

I knew a girl once who would whip up a wheath any time a guy would smile at her. She was very popular.:D :D

Not that i'm an expert but, I have to say it looks pretty slick to me. Is it hand stitched or machine? Also, have you ever thought of putting horizontal loops above and below the vertical one to allow for horizontal carry? Won't work for every knife, but it's just a thought. At any rate I'd have to say it looks as good as the knife does!

"Your thor!? Im so thor I cant pith!!"

Punchline to an old joke, somehow it seemed a fitting response Michael:D

Higgy, again, very sweet leather work.

I copied the pics onto my harddrive so I could take a better look at them magnified using Windows Picture viewer (the pics have a high pixel count). On the back side there is a misplaced hole for the stitching  , I could not see it on the front side, but hey, nobody's perfect.

Yeah, like every one else said "Ship It", I really don't think your customer will cry about it, cause you did an awesome job. EXCELLENTE Higgy! :D

Did you say that you used a sewing awl, and is that saddle stitching?
