My setup with pix

CPL,

While I agree that securing a Florida CPL and proper ID is a good idea, the following statement you made is just dead wrong:

IF YOU HAVE A FL Concealed Weapons License, you can carry any size blade, so long as it's concealed, regardless of the local ordnances.

That a state grants reciprocity to florida CPL holders does not mean that Florida law, whatever it may be regarding a particular weapon, will hold in that jusrisdiction. Many states make allowances for concealed pistols, but the legislation does not in any way permit concealed carry of knives. To say, "But officer, I have a Florida CPL, so your local restrictions don't apply to me." is ridiculous. The following quotes are directly from the Florida DOL's Concealed Carry Reciprocity page:

"It is important for license holders to understand that when they are traveling in or through another state they are subject to the firearm laws of that state."

"While Florida's law allows licensees to carry stun guns, knives, and billy clubs in a concealed fashion, the laws in these states allow for concealed carry of handguns or pistols ONLY, NOT WEAPONS IN GENERAL. Florida license holders are prohibited from carrying other types of weapons while in these states."

Well, you need to quote it all, I did say " Now, how reciprocal states rule that, you need to check before you head out."

But to make it more clear, I edited my post to read:

As to the knife, local municipalities may restrict length of knife as far as what is carried openly legally, or may define something 4" or under as a "common pocket knife" for concealed carry without a permit. IF YOU HAVE A FL Concealed Weapons License, you can carry any size blade in Florida, so long as it's concealed, regardless of the local ordnances. Now, how reciprocal states rule that, you need to check before you head out."

50 LBS!!!!! WHOOO-EEEEE!!! Thats heavy...even for a young(er) man. I'm pushing on the backside of 30(ish) and even with 2 quarts of water and food for 3 days(5 days rationed out) my rig does'nt get beyond 25 lbs. I cant seem to get the pics I've taken from camera to computer but I'll try to just look at it and lay it out in a "list form"......BASE: a hunters tree stand harness, leg straps cut away,BlackHawk belt pad.(works similar to alice harness but much more comfortable IMHO)...RIGHT SIDE: CS LTC Kukri on a custom made extender. behind that a Puma "Master" folder, then a 1 qt Nagelene bottle with a olicamp "spacesaver" cup on bottom in BlackHawk "Aussie" pouch,MIDDLE BACK: Eagle mil-spec butt-pak,contains Hygiene kit(baking soda, toothbrush,TP,sewing kit. also possible bag(clear plastic zippered bags like make-up would come in..get them at Wally-world)..has Gatco sharpener,DMT rod, small notebook with 1 pencil,1 pen. a emergency fishing kit in a plastic box(1.5 in.X1.5X.25 thick),magnesium block, swede spark rod,and pitch pine block on a string,Potable Aqua pills. a roll of trotline string(300 yards when new),First aid kit,(antibiotic, med tape, gauze, some standard pain and cold/flu pills, anti diaretics) Edible plants book(laminated pages),maps of whatever area I happen to be in. A rope I braided myself from trotline string in tied on top and a plastic Fiskars toilet trowel on the side. UPPER BACK: An Eagle hydration pouch with a IMPS hammock from Brigade Quartermasters,Poly/space blanket(Campmor),and a 10x12 nylon tarp(also Campmor) LEFT REAR: another 1 qt Nag in aussie pouch. next to that a LED Mini-Mag in a custom flapped pouch. LEFT HIP: Eagle AP-M60 pouch with another roll of string,EMT shears(in a nylon safety sleeve),a MSR "tool-spoon",(Hey..You can eat steak with a spoon but not soup with a fork so why carry both!!!),my Silva compass, fox 40 whistle, and a flattened roll of Duct tape(this is also where I stuff Granola bars/trail mix and the like.)My Old Timer 3 blade stockman is normally in here as well. Above that pouch attached from the front shoulder strap to the rear one(almost a shoulder holster but a bit lower down.) is my ATC V-TAC.(I LOVE THIS HAWK!!!) Horizontal in front of the AP-M60 is my LeatherMan Multitool. Just as described I've weighed it at 13 lbs. On trips of longer than 2 days I put a Coleman "Solo" mess kit(2 peice) in the butt pack and my food.(I try to go simple..Ramen noodles,mac-n-cheese,single serv soups in dry form, simple foods that I "bulk-up" with edible plants and small fish and game to make larger portions.) that will push my carried weight up to 18 lbs or so lbs. ....but I've never had it go past 25 lbs even on week long trips deep into the Texas riverbottoms. Just my thoughts..I hope this helps someone else to try coming up with their own "custom" set-up. Best to all Ankrst6973
