My Sgt. Kahda Special Arrived

Hi Yvsa:

Thanks for the kind words. It has a moulded on belt loop at the top behind the handle. I was going to put two 1" d-rings on instead, but couldn't find them. So now it has a belt loop.

Para cord can also be wond around it or a shoulder sling can be used, utilizing the rivet holes. I can refine it a bit more. Got tired!

Steve what's the weight difference between the kydex and the standard scabbard?
Not that it matters to me that much but I know a lot of the guys are pretty hung up on how much weight they have to carry.

The kydex sheath will serve it's purpose. I think I'll try heating the kydex in an oven next time instead of using a heat gun.

I can't help but restate my observations about this particular knife. The engraving on the blade says tourist to me. No kami marks bother me. The pommel half of the horn handle sounds hollow and the pommel metal cap is far too thin and cheapo. The decorated sheath is decorative only like a box would be to keep the knife in. Like I said it tore my shirt. Yes, the blade is very nice. This is the only kuk I have that just doesn't seem to measure up. This is a tough one to really try to describe.

Steve,
Nice work there bro...is it a straight draw or a speed rig?? I cant tell from the pics...I am working on a speed sheath for my 15" Ak right now and it is making my hands hurt..:D

It's just a utilitarian cover for the knife. I am going to make a few changes to it and slim it down some.

Watch your kuk speed draw. You may lose fingers or body parts that way!

Hi Yvsa:

Now you have stumped me. I don't have a scale that can weigh an object that light weight. It's probably about the same as a normal sheath, but impervious to water and just about anything else.

I used a heat gun to form this sheath. It could be better. Next sheath will have the plastic heated in the oven. I've read tutorials on how to do that. I would hope the kydex will mold and conform like a second skin. Now. I'm going to need more 2' long sheets!

I can see your point WRT the engraving, but Sgt. Khadka doesn't mark his blades with initials. No kami mark doesn't bother me at all. His steel and handles are easily the equal or superior to that done by the best HI kamis, which is why he sells his stuff to HI. I have several horn handles that sound "hollow" if rapped in certain areas, including a chiruwa handle BGRS. I don't worry about it as it has zero affect on functionality. I would be surprised if the buttcap is any thinner than a standard HI buttcap, but that could be I guess. The scabbard on those models is for looks only. I have about 8 knives by Sgt. Khadka from 9" to 13.5" and everyone is of excellent quality.

People put down the scabbards as cheap and touristy but have no idea how much effort goes into making them. I suppose you could carry it in a sash!, which I guess was the original intention, but otherwise the metal scabbards are just what you say, like a box to hold the knife. If you wanted to carry it you need something else obviously. The kydex souunds like a great idea. I need to try and make a sheath out of this stuff someday.

I think that's the first instance I remember of the Sgt. marking his blades "Made in Nepal."

ugh.
