If you're looking for a different system in the future I recommend a 1x30" or 1x42" belt sander and belts from lee valley tools. This chap has a short video about it:

You can easily reprofile blades with the low grit belts or go right up to a high polish with the 15 micron belts and the leather belt with green honing compound.
It's a great way to sharpen.:thumbup:
