Here's the deal...after my recent knife (and gas ) purchases, I have just enough left over to afford either one of these guys...

The Para Military CPM D2

The Endura with G10 handles

My problem is, I can't decide which. I was thinking about a 710 from BM (I know, I know...great knife, but it doesn't have a hole in the blade) but have since narrowed it down to these too and I need some help. I know I've come to the right place. Thanks much.

God bless.

KATN,

Wade

Those are both excellent knives, so I understand your dilemma. Of the two, the Para has a stronger lock and a thicker 4mm blade. The Endura has a good lock with a 3mm thick blade, which is longer than the Para.

A toss up. Personally, I would take the Para-Millie.

Something to consider here: the FG/CPM D2 Paramilitary is a Sprint run knife, so what's out there is all there will be. The G-10 Endura is in production, so they will be around for a while. I'd suggest the Para first, as it may be harder to find when your finances recover.

I suggest a ZDP-189 Endura. After using that steel extensively to cut fiberglass strapping and cardboard, there simply isn't another steel like it out there.

^^ too bad the ZDP E4 doesn't come with a flat grind or else ppl will be all over it

I say 710:), but since this is the Spyderco forum I will reccomend the Para-Millie. I actually think the Millie compares to the Endura better than the para. The Endura is bigger in person than I once thought.

Sal, any chance of a Para with a standard liner lock? I love the Para, except for the back lock.

That said, G10 Endura or Para. I have an Endura 4 that I carry IWB when I am out walking or hiking, and it is a slim design, perfect for where I'm at, and unobtrusive. Put G10 into the equation, and that would take away the comfort factor. I really like the Para design, except for the back lock (still might get one). Have a 710, and the Paras pop, the Military. If the Para is in limited production, I would go for that one. I would like to check out Spydercos D2. As for what I'd choose, it would have to be 710 out of all three, if the Para gets a liner lock, it would be my first choice.

I just bought a G-10 Endura and I love it. Having said that I've owned a lot of knives and the Para is probably my favorite EDC by far. I'm going to order a D2 in FG soon. Two reasons, lighter and stronger lock.

Once you get used to the Compression Lock, you'll be on a different plane!! :)

I agree with above, the Endura is a bit bigger in person than pictures. The Para is a more comfortable fit in the pocket, in my opinion, and the new D2 version is sweet!! I have two of 'em already. Also, since you were originally considering a BM 710, which would most likely be D2 now, (since the 154 CM models are getting to be hard to find) then I'd go with the Para for the D2. I love VG-10, but whenever I get a chance to grab a knife in D2, I take it. Love the stuff:D

Good luck,
Jon

What's good about it? How exactly does it work, and how is it good compared to a liner or frame lock?

Its has the speed of a axis lock, and tough as any other lock. All in a very light weight package. Good stuff!

On the Yojimbo it does tend to pinch your hand when opening. The para's ergos do not pinch the hand when opening.

I did like the para I had, but just found a Mili is not that much more knife in the pocket, but packs a lot more cutting edge. The Para was sold. I LOVE the Mili in all flavors with S90V at the top. :D

The para is a GREAT knife, it just bunched up my thumb on the ramp. Look into a Mili.....they make them in D2 :D

Para has never appealed to me. I like the lock and feel of the Endura just fine. I have been carrying one of each improved model for about 15 years.

Para mili all the way.... I have a FG-D2 para and it is amazing. Its my EDC....Its like a scalpel.... And the compression lock is solid... This is probably the 10th para that i have owned and this one is the best....
Good luck....
