I found HI via a well-known YouTube channel that did a review of one of the knives (and showed a second one that he did not use) I have since spent a lot of time being drawn back to the site and lurking, trying to figure out which one to buy. I decided that I wanted an AK, but shortly after figured out how the DOD works, so I started watching this forum for an AK
I ended up seeing a 17.5 inch 30 ounce WWII (with a free hat) for a price that I couldnt pass up so I bought that and a 14 ounce OM Knife. -- My addiction had started.
I spent the summer chopping branches and small logs with these two, but I kept thinking of the AK with the warning: Unless you are physically fit and have serious chopping to get done, opt for something smaller. After dreaming of this one for as long as I could take it I sent Auntie an email to ask if she has any 20 AKs that were in the 4+ pound range.
My jaw dropped when I she responded and told me that she found a Magnum AK during her move. After many emails and a shipping delay due to my vacation I finally received a box from HI not the standard triangle box, but the box that the post office ships the triangle boxes in. After cutting the knife open and getting down to the knife I found a 72 ounce, 25 inch, 2 handed AK!!! I am a big guy 62 and I wear 2XL gloves, and I can get a good 2 handed grip on this beast!!!!
I cant wait to tear into a tree with this guy, but I am torn, because it is easily a work of art and I know that I will feel worse about the first scratch in this than I did over the first scratch in my new car.
I also included a couple of pictures of a sheath that I made for my small knife, and a modification I made to my WWII sheath (added a belt loop with a snap by wrapping the existing loop with a strip of leather.
Now for some pics:
