I found HI via a well-known YouTube channel that did a review of one of the knives (and showed a second one that he did not use) I have since spent a lot of time being drawn back to the site and lurking, trying to figure out which one to buy. I decided that I wanted an AK, but shortly after figured out how the DOD works, so I started watching this forum for an AK

I ended up seeing a 17.5 inch 30 ounce WWII (with a free hat) for a price that I couldn’t pass up so I bought that and a 14 ounce OM Knife. -- My addiction had started.

I spent the summer chopping branches and small logs with these two, but I kept thinking of the AK with the warning: “Unless you are physically fit and have serious chopping to get done, opt for something smaller.” After dreaming of this one for as long as I could take it I sent Auntie an email to ask if she has any 20” AKs that were in the 4+ pound range.

My jaw dropped when I she responded and told me that she found a Magnum AK during her move. After many emails and a shipping delay due to my vacation I finally received a box from HI – not the standard triangle box, but the box that the post office ships the triangle boxes in. After cutting the knife open and getting down to the knife I found a 72 ounce, 25 inch, 2 handed AK!!! I am a big guy 6’2” and I wear 2XL gloves, and I can get a good 2 handed grip on this beast!!!!

I can’t wait to tear into a tree with this guy, but I am torn, because it is easily a work of art and I know that I will feel worse about the first scratch in this than I did over the first scratch in my new car.

I also included a couple of pictures of a sheath that I made for my small knife, and a modification I made to my WWII sheath (added a belt loop with a snap by wrapping the existing loop with a strip of leather.

Now for some pics:

Welcome

Very Nice, thank you for the pics.

Before swinging that Magnum around, please read the stickies! That beautiful beast can inflict grievous sequential damage. I have a similar 25" @ 67oz. I was lucky, only decapitating some lawn art.

Me and Bookie fondled a Magnum down there in July. Maybe that was it.

Beastly is the first word that pops into my infinitely small mind. Beautiful.

I concur with the dilemma of wanting to play Paul Bunyon but fearing the inevitable scratch dings etc.

I fought it and been using one of my AK's for chopping kindling. Used it all winter, left it in the garage. It rusted a bit due to absolute neglect and lack of knife love on my part. I made amends and cleaned it up pretty good. Not to original out of the triangle box standards since it'll see more kindling this winter but at least it don't look abused.
Also in my room warm and dry and much loved.

LOL! It was no accident either, you just don't like garden gnomes.

Ssshhs, I haven't received this months payment buying my silence so I don't tell his wife he done it on purpose.

Great pix and collections, thank you for sharing

I forgot all about that autodraft Bawanna! Since she already done found out, Im going to delete that now! Thanks for reminding me. Hmmm, without that bill, maybe I can afford a new knife

I have one. I believe it was my fourth or fifth purchase
IIRC, It's 64 ounces. I'll have to look it up or find it to make sure. BTAITM, you have a real world Khukri Hoss. Cheers!

Lovely start of your collection. That HIKV should be a touch slowed by that beastie of a Magnum :D Thanks for showing it off, helps my HIKV too a bit.

BTAITM??? Just when I think I got all these abbreviations and secret codes fingered out, I get thrown a curve. Quite challenging sometimes.

Work it out bawanna, work it out. Back To Atomic Inference Technology Manhood. No that can't be right.......
Blue Tires Allow Intimate True Mosaics.....naw, but getting close, I can feel it in my cells.
By The Anatomy Inflection True Means...............

I'll be back, my heads hurting.

I was thinking the same... what is the real meaning on BTAITM?

We'll have to wait for BB. I don't have a clue honestly.

I suspect by the end of the day we'll both be just a tiny bit smarter or maybe dumber depending on what it really means.

Well, you're all good. I goofed up! It was supposed to be Be That As It May. The extra T was the monkey wrench that threw things off. My apologies.

Wow, that works, I tried it. Gosh why didn't I think of that, I should have had that one.

Boy some days a box of rocks makes me look dumb. Not that I'm implying that BB is a box of rocks or nothing like that.

Even with the extra T is works if you know what your searching for.

That magnum is a force of nature..wow. That must have taken two trips to the leaf spring pile!

Who needs an axe anyway?

Now what is wrong with a box of rocks? I just paid over a hundred bucks for a box of rocks. I just WISH people would send me a box of rocks! When my mom goes trekkin off to another country all I ask of her is to bring me back a rock. A dozen countries later I finally convinced her that I was not kidding. Thats all I wanted! I dont have one from Nepal yet but I do have a piece of Tata spring or two so I guess I cant complain:rolleyes:
I thought that acronym was an attmept at BATFE after a shot of tequilla or something? They eventually had to add the "E" because of ....well nevermind:D

well my collection has doubled since I originally posted this (way to much time spent on the site this week) I have 4 more DOTD blades in rout. I will post some pics once they show up.

and in my quest I am pretty sure I found a picture of Joe holding my AK from a post on 6/26:

That's the one I was thinking of. There should also in that same thread be a picture of Yangdu removing it from the sheath. Possible one of Bookie holding it as well. I know he held it, don't recall if I got a picture of it or not. I'm sure somebody does.

Heck of a knife, I'll tell you that much.

Happy reminder and very fond memories of a very fun visit. I feel so blessed and honored that she and her family allowed us to visit.
