Was trying to come up with something to be legal/ concealable in a fixed blade. The blade is just shy of 3", OAL is 6.75". Now I need to design a side carry or center of back carry (horizontal-ish)sheath. First one in bocote, no stainless steel tube for lanyard, second one will have as tube for lanyard. First sheaths, gotta get better at everything.IMG_20170727_094352.jpg IMG_20170727_094438.jpg

What defines "illegal"? I live in NJ, and breathing can be illegal at times. We don't have any restrictions on knife's in the state

Why a lanyard, I never quite understood them. I can see it for large choppers and such but why on a small skinner with a handle that is shorter then you hand. Seams like it would be uncomfortable and create a hot spot.

@Nateman, I guess it's different here, can't be concealed if over 3".

wkfl wkfl , thanks, I hope to get better. Some amazing makers here and I'm learning a lot from their posts.
JTknives JTknives , not a lot to grab onto when this one is in it's sheath, hook a pinky finger in the lanyard to get it out, kinda falls right into the palm of the hand then.

Here ya go DanF couple of sheath ideas:

The lanyard is handy for holding your knife in your teeth too when your hands are busy.

I kind of specialize in smaller fixed blades and the lanyard is probably the single most requested feature by my customers. I make very few knives over 7" oal. Of the four knives pictured here in their sheaths the yellow bone handled one is 6.25" oal, the cocobolo handled one is about 9" and the bottom two are 5.25"oal. The elk handled one is my current own personal EDC. The blue bone handled one my son is castrating with is the wife's EDC it too is 5.25" oal.

Lots of leather help over at Sheaths and Such here on BF. Nice job on the knife and sheath. Bocote is a great handle material. I use it a lot.

JT, Some of my customers like to tie their knives to their sheath or to their belt when hiking, riding horseback, or climbing hills. I like lanyard holes sometimes just because they look nice on some knives. They can be functional to keep from losing your knife while wearing a sheath. Larry

@ Horsewright, thanks, that's just the ticket on the sheaths! I'll check out the Sheaths forum, and have ordered the Chuck Burrows DVD as well.
