My son is in college and works part time at WalMart. He's on winter break and before he left for work this morning he showed me this. Guess he saw a bunch of people buying them yesterday so bought one for himself. Apparently it was only $2.50. I'm so ashamed😞

It's amazing how dull it is. Told him I'd at least try to put an edge on it for him, but damn, just damn. Thought I raised him better than that.

My MIL bought me an Ozark Trail knife and multitool set for Christmas, because she knows I’m in to knives! Lol. I just throw em in the junk drawer and regift them. Don’t worry about trying to put an edge on it, not worth your time! Just give him a quality knife to use.

If your son is anything like how I was in college, a $3 Walmart knife isn’t the worst choice. If it breaks or gets lost it’s not a big deal. I was carrying a BM 940 at the time and it saw some hard use and abuse living in a big house full of frat boys. Nothing like chucking a $200+ folder at the dart board or prying open a can because somebody lost the can opener.

Maybe direct him towards a kershaw or a buck. I believe Walmart sells both.

Eldest daughter gifted me a imitation SAK with "Dad" burned in the loosely attached scales.

I hugged her, thanked her, then threw it in a bin.

I was actually a bit surprised too, as she knows my knife nut status....

The thoughtfulness was appreciated though.

My daughter brought this home to me from one of her travels.
And she is an avid Case p-nut collector.

We all have been down that road. It’s the thought that is most important!! 😍

Bad thing is, a lot of those "customized" cheepo knives like they sell online get some of the highest reviews of any knives on there  . I guess if someone wasn't knowledgeable about knives, I could see how they could make that mistake.

I hear ya. They are comically bad tools, but somehow seem to keep selling.
