My son has brought shame upon our house!

My brother showed me his POS knife with a liner lock that flexed with very little effort. I gave him a Buck 112 Slim Select out of fear for his fingers. The irony is that he could easily afford a better knife and he knows the difference, he just always buys the cheapest tools and brags about how little he paid.

My son is in college and works part time at WalMart. He's on winter break and before he left for work this morning he showed me this. Guess he saw a bunch of people buying them yesterday so bought one for himself. Apparently it was only $2.50. I'm so ashamed😞

It's amazing how dull it is. Told him I'd at least try to put an edge on it for him, but damn, just damn. Thought I raised him better than that.

He well knows how to push the right buttons. Now lets see what you give him to replace it. Bet it's worth more than $2.50. :)

But it's the best knife you can buy for $2.50 new.

I'd just sharpen it for him and buy him a nicer knife. Let him compare the 2.

Tell him that you'll be randomly requesting a photo of his knife over the next few weeks. If he has it on him, and proves it with a photo consistently. Spot him $75 and guide him through locating, negotiating and purchasing a nice preowned piece from the exchange. He'll prove his interest, learn to carry, use, research, negotiate and eat lobster on a ramen noodle budget.

It’s just part of the learning process. Don’t be too hard on him. Lol.
That’s the truth! Back in the early ‘90’s I used to skip school to shovel snow. I’d save my pennies and buy all sorts of low-quality knives and reproduction swords, if my mother didn’t take it first to pay the rent. I was very proud of those weapons and I’m sure my uncles were all shaking their heads. But it was a step on the path, and a learning process that fit my budget and my mindset at the time. I still feel like that kid, with my ridiculous hobbies, but I’d like to think that my collections have been curated with more thoughtfulness in the last twenty years.
