P.S. Got #4...! Whoever gets #2 or #6, please let us know what you think of that rhododendron wood. I have never seen it in person, but am interested to know if it feels light / heavy or has much grain to it, scent, etc., etc. Thanks.

Holy Moly.

I have the Yangdu Special in my hands right now. Yangdu gave it to me, and it means a great deal to me. It is as fine a thing as I've ever handled from Himalayan Imports. I do not care for smallesh knives of 12 iinches and another ounce in the same number of weight. But this...

But this knife is special. It holds well. I feel all the aliveness you can sometimes experience with an HI blade. The heart, I guess. Its fit and finish are superlative, the best. The styling is unique, there are none like it, though in shape it's not far from a Sirupate. I think the angle is less, and it is not abrupt like say, a WWll, but curved like a Hanshee. Yeah, it's flowing like a hanshee but without the steep angle. The buttcap edge is patterned, I think like a chitlangi but I'll have to look again. The sword of Shiva is different, with nice but not flamboyant lines and there are no brass fills. Just a little touch of quiet elegance. The handle has a neat pattern of carving, but not the same as on my Chitlangi. The spine is over 1/4" at the stoutest place. This knife is strong. The point is devastating, and when I held it I immediately thought of that little knife Rusty used to have, the one he was afraid of because in the right hands it could do such terrible work.

There is no fear or element of aggression in this knife, it simply is as it is- the holder decides what it will become in use. And use, what of it? It is just big enough that I'm eager to take it for light hiking. If I should ever be stranded without a heavier, longer blade, this Yangdu Special is enough blade to do the defense on a Cougar.

I like this blade very very much.

To me it means the Road before us now- the giant road that has opened. A few months ago I couldn't imagine what we were going to do without Bill and Rusty. I'll tell you what, we're going onward, further, plodding and running, and with friends all around us. There's Magic right in front of us.

edit, Oh, I remember what I was going to say; For Only 75 Bucks??!!

Yeah, that's what I think makes it nice that curved, not angled shape, and nice point.

Yeeehaaaahhhh!

Got #7!

Lucky I got out of work early.... and the pack of sharks must have been a little sluggish, or I wouldn't even have had a shot at the last one.

First neem... can't wait to see how it smells :D :foot: in fact first khukuri in weeks.

Shows I'm not cured. Good.

Wow, those look great
I was asleep at the wheel today! I'm sure there will be more though. It would be nice to have everyones' special. Uncle Bill's, Yangdu's, Yvsa's, and Bobwhite's if anymore come in. I've got Kismet's special in the form of the Sarge/KPH. I've got Dan's Pen Knife (as well as the seax and kerambit he had a huge hand in designing). Heck, my beloved AK bowie was at one time known as the Cobalt Special. I'm a specials kind of guy, i guess. I'll have to get one of these Yangdu Specials the next time they roll around.

btw, Congrats and good snag, Mike:D That's sharkin' the the n'th degree;)

Wow, those are beautiful!

It's a terrible thing when work gets in the way of Yandu's deals, but I've been so fortunate in the past I can't complain. Congratulations to all of you who got one. Yangdu, that's a wonderful khukuri.

I am in for #2...sent a quick email to Yangdu asking her to pick one for me, we know she has great taste and I dont have a Rhododendron wood handle in my obese collection so this was an excellent pick by her! :D

Don't feel bad, Jake. I just happened to be on when Yangdu posted these. Usually when Yangdu posts a DOTD offering she be logged on for about 30 minutes or so beforehand, yet today she appeared out of thin air almost with these beautiful knives.

Hopefully, more will come.

I also hope some of you read my earlier post and share the hope and the excitement I have about the new road before us. I know it's been hard without Bill and Rusty.

I meant to comment on that, munk. It was a great post. It's nice when those that lead us are excited about things to come. That's what I love about this place and HI. It's always dynamic. Most of it is good. New products, new faces, new ideas discussed several times a day. Some of it not so good. We grow to care about otherwise complete strangers. We are saddened by their losses. Wheel of life, i suppose. Being on the ground level is exciting:)

How did I miss these!!?? I was even online.. :( :grumpy:

I can only hope more are on the way and they will be the same price. I'd love to have one to display with Uncles.

Yandu, they look like they are wonderful tools beauifully crafted. My compliments on your choice of design.
