I hope more are offered soon.

the Yangdu Katunge Special YKS
the Aunt Yangdu Special AYS
the Aunt Yangdu Katunge Specia AYKS
the Lady Yangdu Special LYS
the Yangdu's Special Knife YSK

I have 2 of these, so I won't bore ya w/ my whine for missing out on this special offering
What I can tell you is this is HI"s best all around sub 15" knife !!!
it's like a compact Ganga Ram in shape & ability, its rounded spine is what 1st attracted me to it, which aids in its awesome chopping abilty
This is the best under 15" chopper I own, 4.25" handle, 9" blade,
It's the smallest khukuri I would want to put in my back pack and not feel comprimised

I am in for #2...sent a quick email to Yangdu asking her to pick one for me, we know she has great taste and I dont have a Rhododendron wood handle in my obese collection so this was an excellent pick by her! :D

Sweet, I'd love to see that one if I could ever meet up with you. 80 hour weeks don't work for doing anything else. I strive to become a man of leisure such as yourself. :D

I'm very curious about that wood, and have everything else but none of that. Kind of matches the knife well. I like the dark neem though so am glad I was able to get that one.

Once again, I missed a good one. I guess that mine wasn't in this batch.

These look very, very nice. I'm making a spot on the wall next to my bone handled Salyan; one of these will eventually hang beside it.

Norm - with the rhody handles, think waxwood. Mine was nearly identical in look and feel.

Wow, these are nice! I love the flowing lines. Beautiful! $75?!? Such a small price for such a piece of art. Such a piece of our hearts. I hope more are to come.

Thank you, Yangdu.

Yangdu,
What does the word Katunje mean?
Terry

Katunje has several meanings. It can be a personal name. It is mainly a remote village in middle Nepal about 6000 feet above sea level.

A bit of trivia from my friends in Katmandu -- Nepal is a very mountainous country. It's borders enclose only about 56,000 square miles, roughly the shape of Tennessee and the size of Florida. However if you count actual surface area (up and down the mountain slopes) it would be huge. It seems like Steve said it would nearly equal the land mass of the USA though I may be wrong here.

I am most familiar with the Tamung or Tamang. They all seem to have the same last name, "Tamung." There are many dialects in Nepal and very different from each other.

I think that Aunt Yangdu is not Tamung, but from a neighboring culture, I think she is Sherpa.

I would also like to know what 'Katunje' means to Aunt Lady Yangdu.

DRAT! Just when I thought I had my HIKV under control she HAD to bring out this beautiful special! Now I gotta have one ---- Nooooo, I gotta have two because Anne will want one of her own!

I can't even show Anne a picture of this neat little khuk becasue she will hound me until I get her one!

I LIKE the name LYS as Tom proposed earlier in this thread.

Old Shark now circling........ dun, dun, dun, (theme from "Jaws")

The verdicts in. I hadn't really thought about the Yangdu Special being feminine until Yvsa said so, but I guess it is in a way....like a female shark

My wife looked at it and said, "mine....Just kidding." (I'll have to get her one)

They remind me of a scaled down version of the first Malla's someone posted here awhile back. The first ones out of HI were shark like, with that hungry point. Some of the later ones lost that sports car, fighting look.

My BAS used to be the smallest blade I'd take walking in the forest. No more. There is now actually a sub 15" HI khuk that I trust enough to do that.

In her way, different from Bill's, Yangdu sits at the Bar in the Cantina.

btw,
I'm getting pretty sick of the fighting about who gets to sit next to her. If you don't like the random numerical order Nasty established a while back, have a drinking contest, play darts, go over the cliff in a car like James Dean, only stop yelling. You caused me to miss the end of Army of Darkness on TV. I couldn't hear a blasted thing. You know who you are. Yeah, you'd better look at your shoelaces. So, shut the munk up. You oughta buy Nasty a beer.

munk

I'll have a dark and stormy, and a Ginger Ale for the munk. Both Blenheim Hot, please.

J

I want that Ginger Ale. Lord, is that Blenheim ever good.

Spectre, what do you say you and I make a pact; to try and not leave this earth without first drinking a Ginger Ale together?

munk

If either of you let me have one too I can change your number for sitting next to Yangdu.

Excellent knife to represent a most excellent lady,
I wonder if anybody is pondering like I am, about the possibility of putting in a pre-paid order for one of these, with, perhaps, the further possibility of getting to specify choice of handle materials. Just thinking out loud again.
