My Spyderco Bradley 2 Needs a Companion

I just pair a slipjoint with my GB2 or Umnumzaan. The BF21 knife from last year. Little bigger than a lot of slipjoints.

I'll guess. I think it might be a frankenspyderco. A quick search found a fluted Ti Native 5s in S35VN but not in Cruwear. Might be a stock Native 5 in Cruwear with the scales from the S35VN knife.

Don't need to search, just read my post #12: "The one below originally came in S35vn. There is also a fluted CF version with S90v edge."

I saw that. But the pic has a blade of Cruwear. So if the OP wanted the same knife, Cruwear + fluted Ti scales, he would have to buy two knives and do a blade swap correct? Spyderco never made a Native 5 in Cruwear with fluted Ti scales did they? That is what is screwing me up. Sorry, long day, I must be missing something obvious.

I hate recommending this but this boring damn thing won’t get out of my pocket most days. Perfectly light and capable. Check out a Bugout with CF scales.

Has anybody owned both the Chaparral and Native 5?
They look very similar to me and being unable to hold each in hand I can't appreciate the differences.
I'd appreciate a rundown of the plusses and minuses of each.
How come nobody mentioned the Sage 5? I've owned this knife a few times and loved it.
Thanks

The Native is quite a bit thicker and a little bit larger than the Chaparral, it's more of a workhorse knife as where the Chaparral has a thin slicey blade more suited for cutting fruit, opening packages, breaking down cardboard, and cutting zip ties and the like but I've read about people using them for hard use tasks without issue. The Chaparral won't take as much abuse as the Native but the Native will never slice as well as the Chaparral either, so a lot of it comes down to how you intend to use it. The below video is the only comparison between the two that I could find back when I was trying to decide between them. In my opinion the sage is kind of a cross between the native and the Chaparral and if you wanted something a bit larger than the Chaparral but not as robust as the Native, it would be my first choice for the thinner blade stock alone, it's like the Chaparral's bigger cousin.

If the waypoint was too slim for you then the Chaparral likely would be as well. The Sage series is another good option though if you don't like the backlock.

And just for fun here's the mini OG and a mini grip with the waypoint.

There is also the Sage 1 to consider. Yes it's in Maxamet but the same overall package as the 5 but with a liner lock. Nice and slicy also. It's a fantastic edc and while I don't have one anymore because I'm stupid it was all I carried for 6 months one time.

What’s a Mini OG?

I would go with the spyderco para 3. I like the maxament, g10 version the best. But then I have 10 para 3s in 10 different steels. So, I may be a little biased.

Are you opposed to slipjoints? They're my preferred second knife if I'm carrying two. Take a look at the CollectorKnives exclusives from lionSTEEL -- they're modern traditionals with screw construction and M390 blades.

In terms of locking folders, the Bugout fits most of your requirements. The Tactile Rockwall does too, but it's $50 over your budget.

I was going to say the same thing. I'd recommend a GEC71! That being said if you're wanting something small I would take the Hogue Deka 10 to 1 over the bugout.

I think some of you misconstrued my question which, I admit, wasn't phrased all that well.
I ALWAYS carry a SAK with me as my secondary workhorse.
It's a primary knife I'm looking for.
The GB2 is my primary LARGE knife.
I'm looking for a primary SMALL knife.
Hope that helps.
And as far as slipjoints go, I love em. But I wouldn't carry them as they're nowhere as useful as a SAK. Definitely more beautiful though.
But I gotta have a Phillips and flat screwdriver, file to smooth out jagged nails, wood saw for pruning in the yard, Scissors of course, bottle opener, and the best tool of all, a magnifying glass. The one on my Swiss Champ is awesome. It's glass and very well ground. It just didn't stay in the frame when I got it. A tiny dab of rubber glue fixed it up permanently. I just wish I could custom design a SAK, though. I'd remove the fish scaler (I don't fish) and at least one of the blades. This would remove 1 layer from the knife making it thinner and much lighter and easier to carry.
