I purchased a Spyerdco at a gun&knife show (Bill Goodman's for TN ppl) I guess it was around the time they first came out, I think it was about 15 years ago. It was one of the first knives I had experience with that had a pocket clip and a serrated blade, It seemed both features where very popular at the time, it was the full size version, I think there where only about 4 different kinds. I really loved this knife and carried it constantly for a few years, but unfortunately it was the version that had the plastic clip, one day I sat down and it popped off with surprising force, and I put it aside and picked up a Gerber EZ out that I carried forever. Im not complaining, it was a great knife and I see that they have corrected this with metal clips now.
I was recently at Smoky Mountain Knife works in Gatlinburg (awesome knife store, about the size of a super Walmart) and an emplyee there asked why I never got it replaced, and I said I had no idea they would do that after a couple of years after purchase.
I picked up a RAT model 1 and Gerber Steadfast while I was there. I was dismayed to hear some bad things about the RAT recently after purchasing, seems like a sharp well made knife to me.

I have a rat model 1, its an absolutely nice knife. The ergonomics are great, steel liners, bronze bushings, and a nice lockup. Steel is mid-range but can get rediculously sharp. I do dislike however the painted blade, because it is, well, painted. SOME people on here give it a bad rap because of the politics between RAT and Ontario knives, but it really is great for the money. Hope to see you in the future here in the spyderco forum, they are all a great group of people.

Welcome to Bladeforums! :D

Don't worry about the Ontario RAT folder. It's a good knife, enjoy it. Even the RAT Cutlery guys say they aren't boycotting Ontario, just fighting them on the intellectual property issues.

If you still have the Spyderco, I would suggest sending it in to Spyderco's customer service and see what they can do. They have fixed broken frn clips for me before by shaving down the remainder of the broken clip and adding a metal clip. Just a suggestion.

Do what ChapmanPreferred said. I've been attending Bill Goodman's for nearly 20 yrs. now. Funny enough I've purchase a lot of slip joints there but the only Spyderco I can recall was my first Endura; then again that my have been a Bob Pope Show.
