Anybody else? Out of box it doesn't slice paper sharpened for 3 hours on sharp maker course to ultrafine was good for 3 magazine paper cut a couple inches then wouldn't cut again so re sharpened. Now I just opened a box just slicing tape and a little cardboard sure enough I need to sharpen again I sharpened on the 40 and did the sharpie trick and it was hitting the whole blade. Is it the 1 15/16 blade is so small it easily dulls? I've sharpened off the burr each time s o I don't think it's that. Is it the non ffg blade? Doesn't slice nice through paper? I just got a ffg superblue and that thing cuts amazing next to it. The vg10 kinda just m a mes a slight rip. Prior to this I loved vg10 and have sharpened a few on the sharp maker anybody else?

I don't have a Ladybug, but I do have a Dragonfly in VG-10. My experience it that it takes a bit more patience on my part to sharpen it. I use a Norton India combo stone (fine side) then a Spyderco ceramic stone (fine).

Weird. I too have a D2 in VG-10. Sharpens up no problem. Pardon me for saying so, but perhaps it's your sharpening technique? VG-10 is a very well respected steel...

My two L.B.'s are always sharp as a scalpel.
Both are H1 steel, the tan is carried every day.
Everything gets sharpened on DMT systems.

It's odd for sure I've had I think 7 delicas and enduras and they all came super sharp except one and I sharpened that fine. Same thing with my mini grip and my pm2 both came pretty dull and I got them sharp. I start on the brown edges until I get a burr on the left then get a burr on the right. Then follow the standard left right back and forth lightly until I feel no burrs. Then do the same on the flat side then all the way up to ultra fine.

Maddening situations like this are why I ended up getting a Wicked Edge... You might consider sending it to Spyderco. They will sharpen it for the cost of shipping it to them.

When they do it how? Factory it is just hand ground on Do they do it by hand the same or use stones? Do they just follow the existing angle or do they re bevel it?.

I recently sharpened my Dragonfly 2 in VG10 to a shaving sharp blade using the Gatco ultra fine ceramic stone. I did a 19 degree primary bevel and a 22 degree micro-bevel on each side and the thing is wicked sharp. Make sure you don't have any bur left over. Vg10 steel takes a very clean sharp edge.

After sharpening try pulling the blade through the edge of a clean piece
Of wood . Preferably end grain . With a really light touch just a tad over the weight of the blade .
Sounds wrong but it can help remove any micro burr .
Could it be a bad heat treat on a spydie ???

I have a Manbug and Dragonfly, both in VG10, and both came sharp from Spyderco and can get equally sharp when resharpening them on my Spyderco Sharpmaker.

Wouldn't this dull it?

Spyderco sharpens their knives at 30º inclusive. By sharpening it at 40º, you may have convex'd the edge.

I had a newer Starmate with the same issue. The VG-10 just wouldn't take an edge. I regretfully got rid of it. I loved the over all look and feel of that knife.

I sharpen a lot of knives at 30 deg, followed by a small 40. It does not convex, & works well on VG10.
American sounds like he has the right idea. Either there is a HT problem, or your technique is off.
