My Spyderco Sharpmaker

I just read that thread and looked over Congress Tool's website. I plan to order a pair of 120 grit 1/2" x 6" moldmaster squares to rubber band to the sharpmaker hones and use for reprofiling all my knives to 30 degrees. Good idea or is there a better choice from these guys.

I like moldmaster. I tried several different stones, but keep only ruby and moldmaster. It seems to me that ruby remove steel a little faster, but it shed more, also molsmaster made out of silicon carbide, so it is harder than ruby (aluminum oxide). I am not sure that it work well going from 120 grit to sharpmaker medium. I would rather choose 150 grit, than 320 and only than sharpmaker medium. When you polish anything (in our case it is edge) it is recommended ti skip only one grit (240 in my set-up) or you can have a problem removing grinding marks, unless you can do it with lightening pressure. These stones are not that expensive, so I would get an extra grit, just to avid hassle.

I have reprofiled a couple Queen knives with D2 steel on a Sharpmaker setup with the diamond rods. I also set a BM 710 D2 (passaround knife) bevel with the same Sharpmaker setup with no real trouble. I took my time and enjoyed the sharpening experience. I had other sharpening tools/media at hand for all three sharpening sessions, but did not feel that I needed them. Now that I have 2 kids, I tend to use my 2" x 72" belt grinder, 1" x 30" belt sander, or wheels (as promoted by richard j on this forum) more than I previously did for rebeveling and sharpening of plain edge knives.
