My Spyderco Tenacious just keeps on going...

I bought my Spyderco Tenacious about 10 years ago when it was selling for about $37.00. You can't get them for that now, and with inflation so bad, you would be lucky to get it under $70.00. My Tenacious is my edc for the day, and I have just hammered on this knife since I got it, and it's just as good as it was when I first bought it. I can put an edge back on the 8cr steel fairly easy, and with minimum maintenance, this soldier is right back in the battler. I don't' know if they're the same quality as they were when I bought them, but if they are, you're getting a really good knife. The only problem, of course, is the price... and that's a shame.

The Tenacious is a great knife. I have 5 of them for doing chores at my cabin that I don’t want to use nicer knives for. All mine have been worked hard, and all still function great. I think the new ones are priced a bit high, and I won’t be buying any of the upgraded steel versions because my favorite models are made elsewhere and cost is not far off.

Several cold steel options are around $90-100 and are quite robust. I have no dog in the fight though, my money goes to LG 😉
I love Cold Steel knives!!! I find the Tenacious a little more comfortable to carry every day than my Voyager, but I love my Voyager! Pardon my ignorance, but what is LG?

These are my daily beaters. Have 3 of them. Excellent action that rivals knives in the $150-200 class, AR-RPM9 steel that’s not bad at all. I always carry one of these with me plus one of my nicer knives.

They’re my sacrifical knives.

I’d say the best bargain of a knife out there at this point in time.

Tenacious is my first Spyderco knife and also my first decent folder. But come on OP, I don't think a folder like Tenacious can survive being hammered.

Well, I didn't literally beat it with a hammer... just a figure of speech. It has been quite the workhorse for me as a utility knife and cleaning game and fish, got washed in my washing machine with my muddy pants one day too... lol. But, no, I haven't batoned wood or anything like that with it though and to do so would be stupid IMO.

Back in the day I used to see the Tenacious at WallyWorld in the mid $30 range. I asked an associate to open the glass case and let me inspect one. I actually liked the way it felt in hand but changed my mind when I saw the liner lock. Had a bad experience with one once and vowed never again. Also became spoiled with Cold Steel's Triad Lock!

Like I said, I love the Cold Steel Voyager. I just wish that they had a slightly smaller version for EDC. I still have my Voyager and always carry it when I'm doing anything heavy duty.

So one poorly made liner lock means they're all trash?

I'm curious the nature of the failure of the one and what you were doing with it.
