So this is kind of my Intro to the forum and I wanted to relay a very positive experience I had with Strider Knives.I have not posted anything of sustenance before as I had nothing to add until now.

First off let me start by saying I am a Combat Vet I deployed to Iraq with the 1st ID 3/37 Armor as a medic attached to a scout platoon (I am also a Scout) during Desert Storm/Dessert Shield 90/91 and was reactivated in 04/05. I have since been Medically disabled from the military. I am not "knife savvy " or own a big collection of knives the pics I attached below is every knife I own... I am a minimalist but like quality knives. I have been in Medical Orthopedic Implant Sales for 15 years now and I would like to say in my opinion Mick Strider is a class act... really a true businessman and makes an excellent product.
I would like to tell you about my personal experience with Mick.

I purchased a SNG and broke the blade being stupid opening an ammo crate I sent the SNG into Strider to be repaired . It did take awhile (10 months) to get my SNG back...But hell Strider is in the business of making knives not DROPPING everything to repair some boneheads knife that should have used a better tool for the job. Anyway... I am an adult and a businessman and the military taught me a lot of patience as every Military person reading this understands the "hurry up and wait". During that time my ex-wife bought me the SNG DGG for my birthday that you see below. Almost 2 weeks after my birthday I received my replacement knife. Strider sent me back my original SNG Stone washed drop point with a nice new blade but it was black oxide. Also the SNG DGG I got for my birthday present must have slipped by Striders quality control and they sent it with a pivot with out those two notches to adjust it and it was opening rough. Hey shit happens...it was no big deal to me.

I thought it over for a few days and decided to email Mick personally with a much more lengthy email than this one outlining my Strider experience every step of the way. Mick responded to me in a few hours...with an unexpected awesome response.
Bro,
That's So fu#%*d up.

Send me the knives one at a time, (so you have one), and I'll make you happy.

Sorry Brother.

M

So I did what he said and sent them to him....
First the SNG DDG and got it back in 3-4 weeks with nice 3/4 grind black oxide blade (awesome)
Then the SNG with NEW Black Oxide blade (but my old frame) and I got back in 2-3 weeks the SNG CC you see below. (out-f-ing-standing!)

in my opinion he "not only "made me happy he displayed the actions of a true businessman!

What I would like to say in a nutshell is...In my Book MICK is a STAND UP GUY and I wish him all the success he deserves.

SO like I said I am not a knife expert but I know quality, below is a pic of every knife I own .... threw in the pics of my Busse Nuke Badger and a pic of me in Iraq .
my only question is why is the SNG CC Liner that awesome color can anyone tell me about it, I put my SNG DGG next to it for a light source comparison (natural light)

I had a good service experience with Strider as well. I asked them if I could buy a extra flamed pocket clip because the regular pocket clip stood out against my pants. He said no problem and sent me one for free.

So his company basically took 10 times longer to fix something than most other knife companies, and then just sent some stuff back without asking you what you wanted.

I guess his un truths about his military career don't bother you either?

Good looking knives, the more i see them the more i want one!Just not too sure if i want to give them my money though...

They make great knives. Tired of hearing whining about their history, but that will never end. I will continue to buy their products.

Well actually I told Mick "to do whatever he wanted" as I knew I was going to get a quality product in return. The time.... who cares i mean ...really... the entire time I was waiting for them I didn't need it for a SINGLE knife fight.

As for the continued beating of dead horses by individuals like yourself. .....No....I don't care what allegations have been made about his military service as a mater of a fact I don't think it is anyone damn business about his Military Service and past transgressions. I have never met the man, what he does and has done in his personal life is his own business. I would bet money that the same people that felt they had to stick their nose into his business are the same ones that add information to Wikipedia.

I find it odd to be so thrilled with that kind of service but the OP is happy so I guess thats all that matters.

My experience with Strider's customer service goes like this.. After banging my SnG for about a year the stop pin got loose causing front/back blade play. I sent an email to the one on their site. Got a response with instructions to send it back in about 4 hours. It took 4 weeks from the day I sent it out to the day I got it back. 3 additional emails were responded to the same day I sent them during the 4 weeks. Got my knife back good as new without the horror stories I've read on here before. As far as the Strider knives I own and my personal experience with them I have nothing bad to say. I don't care about his past. Mick never told me about his military career, just that he would fix my knife. Thats cool with me.

Nice CC combatmedic2!

I love strider knives, I recetly got some back that were worked on as well and they were perfect! I will continue to buy and carry their product!

Welcome to the forums, and thanks for sharing your experience with Mick and with Strider's service. As you'll see, any thread about Strider here on BladeForums seems to attract certain people with very strong negative opinions about the company, but I've never had anything short of excellent experiences with their knives and, on the one occasion I needed it, with their customer service/warranty repair.

As for the scale on the CC, the finish is Strider's "orange peel" anodized titanium. I've only ever seen it used as a scale finish on Mick's customs and, now, this one (repaired) production knife. Looks like Mick wasn't kidding when he said he'd make you happy and decided to do something special with the scale when you sent it back in -- that knife is now one of a kind!

I really like Strider knives and have bought two SNG's in the past couple weeks. I love my SNG tanto so much I've been carrying and using it for EVERYTHING! This is what I did with it today:

Those are Pink Salmon. I usually baby my knives, especially when I first get them. But something about this knife screams at me to use it. I've been using the hell out of it since I got it.
Everything from cutting up bait piles for deer and opening boxes, to cleaning fish. I'm REALLY liking the knife! Hell, I just bought a DGG SNG from the same person I bought the Tanto from.

I am disturbed and concerned by the stories of bad customer service though. I presently have an SNG at Strider for refurbishment at the manufacturer's. I am assuming it is there because I got a delivery confirmation from UPS, but I don't know for sure because I never got an answer to my e-mail asking if they had it.

Apparently, that is the drill with them when you send a knife in for repair. Send it via UPS or Fed-Ex and don't bother them again until you get it back.

I think that's a little off putting but I'll give 'em the benefit of the doubt. If my knife comes back in a timely manner and looking good as new, I'll be satisfied. If it doesn't, I may have to reconsider my infatuation.

They weren't really allegations and quite a bit of it is documented right here on BF, straight from the 'horses' mouth. And I'm fairly certain the claims were so he could sell more knives and further his image and business, not some drunken bs told around a campfire. Some people have a bigger conscience than others, while some have none. Some like supporting the company, while I will never own one.

I'm surprised someone in the military cares so little when there are laws against making false military claims. Obviously, someone cares about that type of thing and it is usually those in the military who care about honor and valor. It's obvious, and not very surprising anymore, that the country is going in a big counterclockwise downward circle.

If I ever have to wait a year to get some warranty work done I will remind myself they are surely doing the right thing and that I should be happy. I'm glad your content with you hardcore military knives that Strider worked so hard getting recognized for in military circles.

Obviously the majority of people don't have a problem over looking many things Strider, so enjoy. I will continue to not purchase the knives (even though I have handled dozens of them and spoke with employees at Blade and a few other shows) and be an evil 'troll', though I seldom comment on Strider's previous attitude and activities and really only asked to see if you knew of his past as you're in the military.

Oh and welcome to Bladeforums! :D

FlaMtnBkr,
No worries man...I was just trying to get across ...that stuff just doesn't phase me anymore as I have too many other important things to worry about. It looks like you may be local to me I would love to bring you to the VA to sit in the waiting room with me...lol you wouldn't believe the stories. I just take them with a grain of salt, the way I look at it there just stories ...they keep me amused at best. I know my own experiences, I keep the bad ones to myself but if I do recall anytime in the military it is usually some thing that makes me smile and laugh at all the stupid bonehead moves my buddies and I made.

Neuron,
Really?? maybe that why I have not been able to find a similar one anywhere ...it was driving me nuts as it was killing me what was up with that color. It is VERY cool but doesn't look "Orange Peel" maybe it isn't supposed but what do I know.lol... It looks like a tan or goldish tan color. Either way what Mick did for me was quite cool and now knowing its quite unique it makes me smile ...and I seem to be needing those lately.

Oyea... The SNG CC was a complete replacement knife of my old SNG Handle(the old handle was well used) and the new replacement blade they had put on it.

Thanks for the info ! :)

Yep, that would definitely explain why you weren't able to find anything similar. :) The name "orange peel" actually refers to the finish's texture rather than its color: the very subtle texture in the finish is supposed to be reminiscent of the texture of an orange peel. The color, as you said, is gold/tan/bronze rather than orange.

10 months for warranty repair and a defective knife out of the box. Enjoy your Striders, I'll make due with other brands and customs. Greetings from KAF.

A question some of you might be able to answer (i hope i am in the right place) if your strider was convexed on a belt sander (worksharp) does that void the warranty? Also does anyone know if you can purchase New blades only from strider; handle not included?

Great looking SnG's combat medic2.

A lot of times when the Strider spa is slower than normal it's due to the fact that they only make certain models at a time and probably don't have the blades/parts available for extended periods. They are a very small outfit. A few people do a lot of production.

the warranty is void if you change the grind.... example 3/4 grind to a flat grind. if you do anything that isnt factory to the knife its considered pimping.
if you break it under any use they fix it or replace it.
i Really dont think that sharpening to a convex would void it.

You should be fine. Like Popsickle said, changing the primary blade grind is the sort of thing that would void the warranty, but sharpening, convexing, etc. the edge are perfectly fine.

As for purchasing new blades, they almost certainly wouldn't sell you a new blade by itself and send it to you for you to install yourself -- pretty much no knife company will do that. But you might check with them about whether they'd replace the blade if you sent the knife in. I honestly don't know what they'd say, but it can't hurt to ask.
