My Strider has two different studs.

Hello fellows, looking for some assurance that my Strider is legit.
I bought it from a reputable member here in new condition and have used the knife for a couple of months. I did notice right away the difference it the studs, but lately it's been bugging me a bit. I have no reason to believe that it is not authentic but would like some reassurance and if anyone knows what the reason might be for one stud being beveled and not the other.
Please excuse the dust and lint in the pictures.
Thank you.

Its real the serial number on the blade is the give away Strider just started doing that to help counteract the chinese fakes, rest assured it is real even is they used mismached stop pins.

It is probably a little too late to return it if you've used it for a couple of months. If it does not affect function I would just continue using it. If it bothers you send it in according to their requirements on their website and be prepared to wait a while with no comms.
Best of luck.

That's a new one on me, pretty crazy to have a different "finish" on each side. Those are blade stops, not thumbstuds.

Sort of looks like a user mod to me. Maybe it was catching on something??

It's not a user mod or a factory modification. I've purchased brand new Striders from Blue Line Gear, GP Knives, and a couple from reputable sellers on Blade Forums. They all arrived with one side tapered and the other side squared off. I don't know the purpose. I am not going to pretend to know the reasoning behind it. but it's how many of them ship brand new.

Don't worry. Your Strider, with all its quirks, is a legit one. Enjoy it. It's a great knife.

Awesome guys, thanks for reassurance. I love the knife and feel the quality, was just a bit surprised since I couldn't find any topics or pictures online of this happening to others.

I'm just guessing, but if the stop pins are press fit into the blade, then they might chamfer the edge on one side to make it easier to start the press.

Are they press fit? If so, probably done that way to get them started easier at the factory.

My MSC uses tapered on both sides, Other striders are not tapered. I can't think of any purpose to the way yours was done. Someone may have just picked up two non matching stop pins.

It's been a while for me. Man I miss my SnG's (my personal favorite of their line-up, had a number of 'em over the years, but that's another story)... Some time back, if the stop pin wasn't symmetrical, or just looked different from one side to the other, it was purely a case of laziness on the part of the factory. I don't think they cared if the look (appearance) or diameter of the pin was different on each side. At some point later on in their evolution - Strider did start to care and you'd never see sh%t like that. F&F and aesthetics were very good. Anyway, (just stumbled across this thread), IMNSHO there's no excuse for having the pin appear like that. Neither end is machined properly. It's NOT done like that to have it press fit more easily. That's a mistake pure & simple, and if anyone said it was done like that for a reason - I'd call BS. The pin looking like that might be one of the reasons the original owner sold it.

I understand Strider isn't exactly CRK quality... but Strider's have other redeeming features & qualities that justify (to some, me included) their usually higher prices. If it's only starting to bother you now, even though you used it a while, doesn't matter, that's OK - Just touch base with Strider, go through the process and send it in. They'll fix it for the cost of postage. If I'm not mistaken; That you live in Canada shouldn't impact you in the way of any duties or fees as it's being returned to it's place of origin for repairs. BTW, that stop pin is only supposed to touch/stop against the Ti side. There's no contact on the G10 side. Fwiw.

Hi and thanks for your input. I am really enjoying the knife, and the stop pins only "bothered" me in a sense that It gave me some doubt (very little but some none the less) about it's authenticity.
As long as the knife is legit, which it seems to be. I couldn't care less about the looks of the pins, as long as they do the job and the knife performs as intended.

regards,
