Folks,

Good afternoon. I just recently picked up my first Strider and I am excited to share some pics with you and my initial impressions of this blade. I ordered a Coyote Tan SnG with black micro melt PD#1 steel from an authorized dealer--it was delivered today and I am excited to try it out! I have only handled the knife for a few hours and cut a slice of paper, so I cannot speak to it in use yet, but I can share some quick thoughts and pics and what I know so far.

1. Beautiful knife in design and construction--it truly is a brute beast!
2. It's new and has not been broken in yet, so only time will tell, but so far there is NO bladeplay in any direction and it locks up very solidly.
3. Sharp!
4. Lockbar is quite sticky, but I am confident it will smooth out over time--until then I am using the ol' pencil lead trick.
5. Blade is a tad off-center, but not even close to rubbing. I was told directly by Strider that a centered blade isn't always to be expected because the knives are hand fitted and the blades are hand ground.
6. It has some sharp edges around the corners of the G10 and is certainly not a "refined" or "gentleman's knife."
7. Grind lines are absolutely gorgeous and bevel grind is flawless.
8. In terms of fit and finish it is excellent, but not near-perfection as my other favorite brand.

I think that with the right expectations in mind I am very happy so far with my purchase and look forward to getting outside and using it HARD!

Here are a few glamour shots. The last couple shots are living proof that Ebony and Ivory can certainly co-exist in perfect harmony

Man, I am feeling the pull of Strider recently, but I just dont "need" one. That looks like a beast. Enjoy.

Thanks gents!

PC: I don't "need" mine either sir!

Lycosa: yes, you can have it. Just PM me your name, address and phone number... Oh, I will also need your SSN, DOB, and bank account number!

I hope to grab a Lego CB Tanto with a Black blade, soon. This one is my fav Strider folder combo.

I love those Lego grips. There is a huge difference in feel between those and CC. The CC carries much easier, but for actual cutting the Lego and FFG are my favorite.

I have a dgg SnG. Love it! My favorit knife. I carry it everywhere but the office. For office I carry something smaller, either my small sebbie or my pt or my shoki, or my case peanut, or my.....lol. I am now saving for an SMF!

Congrats

I have now carried her for a day and a half and have a few more impressions to share. I have only used it to cut a few strings, dismember some tags from some pants, and process a small cardboard box. Not exactly heavy-duty stuff, but it is 99% of what I use a knife for.

1. The G10 is ROUGH on denim--the combo of the tight clip plus the rough G10 makes for a difficult task to slide in and out of my pocket. Something I will have to get used to as I almost always used to carry a small Seb and the titanium slabs slide right in and out.
2. I have been cycling the knife by either slowly using the thumb hole, flicking it open using the thumb hole, and flicking it open using the studs--any method is easy and effective.
3. The knife has a very smooth action.
4. The lockbar is still quite sticky, but it's only been a day so I am not concerned.
5. In using it to cut up a cardboard box I found the knife to be comfortable to use either with a full handled grip or by choking up on the choil. It certainly didn't slice as well as some other folders--despite the FFG. The black coated blade is quite sticky and catches onto materials causing it to bind.
6. Overall, I am still very happy with the knife!

Congrats on your first Strider!

You think the Lego G10 is rough on denim? Man, my DGG G10 made me reassess almost all the pants I wear! 5.11 taclite pros seem to be best with their knife specific pocket, but they might be a bit too "tacti-cool" for some.

It was only a short time ago that I got my first. I now have a CC SMF, a DGG SMF and a Lego PT on the way. Oddly enough, the first Strider I got was a Lego SnG but I mainly purchased it to assess whether or not I really wanted a Strider and found it a bit smaller than I expected. So I pulled the old "catch and release", made a nice little profit and threw in a bit more cash to wrangle up the DGG SMF. Couldn't be happier... well, maybe (you know how us knife fanatics are).

Granted, now that I have a PT on the way, the next logical step would be to fill in that gap with an SnG. Hoping to find a flamed SnG with ghost stripes but I know those are a pretty hot commodity.

Anyway, I think your Strider will only continue to grow on you. I wasn't entirely sold at first but they're the kind of knives that beg to be used and not babied. I find a lot of comfort in owning a knife that I really trust to hold up under any task.

Putting aside all the baggage that comes with the brand you can't deny that the knives speak for themselves. They offer a truly unique design that has been proven over the years by serviceman and civilian alike. A no questions asked warranty is rare and exceptional for a folding knife. And what's great about the sng/smf/pt knives are the endless variations they offer with the different finishes and blade steel.
Special runs with steels like 3V, Z-wear, Pd-1, ect. And blade finishes like black oxide , digicam, pvd, tiger stripe, ghost stripes, hard chrome etc.

A bit of graphite will help remedy the sticky lockbar. Just take a pencil and colour-in the area of the tang that makes contact with the lockbar.

Funny thing about the sticky locks I've had is, one day it's just gone. I don't mind a sticky lock though, I kind of like a little click to it. My Sebenza has a little click and I think that knife is perfection. I had an SnG that would lock up as tight as a fixed blade cutting double sided cardboard. Just pull back on the blade spine and it released easily.

Yeah, I don't mind a little bit of stickiness either. It let's me know the blade is solidly locked in place. My SNG was really sticky brand new and has broken in a little (I've only had it for about 5 days). I did use a pencil to rub some graphite between the blade tang and lockbar and it made a noticeable difference. Disengaging the lock is smoother now and the blade still locks up tight with no movement in any direction.

Thanks for all the input gentlemen.

I am currently using the pencil lead trick to smooth it out while she breaks in, but it really hasn't been much of an issue.

One downer about having an SnG is that I realize just how little I actually need a "hard use" folder. 99% of what I do could be handled by a SAK!

I will post up some additional usage pics as the days go by. Please keep posting up your pics--especially if you have some action shots or some well-used Striders!

PS: I now have a PT on my WTB list!

I rarely need a hard use folder for my cutting tasks, I own 10 of them and have 5 more on oder. My Sng was very sticky and didn't loosen up after opening it a few hundred times. I took the knife apart, put it back together again and now its opens perfactly, I don't know how that helped but it did.

Both my Striders had sharp edges on the G10. I softened the edges over with a small flat file and some 400 grid sand paper.
