My survival kit

Nice little kit which includes some essentials.... but is it supposed to be a stand alone kit or something thrown into a bigger pack ?

Well, when i get thet Vic Farmer I think it could be a stand alone kit in case of emergency, but I much prefer to have my backpack and machete with me :D.

Nice setup. I have similar setup. except for different SAK. A hint, I work vaseline into the cotton balls and store them in small sandwich bag. They burn long and well even in wind and light off fire steel.

Vaseline is good idea, but the tin is so filled, and i've stucked the cotton in the "cracks" between the other things - makes it pretty silent when walking, ant the rest of the cotton is on the top of the stuff. :)
I'm gonna make a small fire kit in a Altoids tin - it will consist of a mini fire steel, striker, vaseline cotton, fatwood sticks and fatwood shavings.

Nice kit! I agree, it needs a light. I never thought about carrying a flashlight until I got an EDC light. Now I wouldn't ever want to be without it.

As for removing the whistle, I've taken to carrying a small homemade whistle in my pocket. I made it from a short joint of river cane and a small piece of twig for the reed(right term?). Piece of cake to make, looks cool, takes up very little space in the pocket.

I would also recommend a small tube of CrazyGlue or any cheap cyanoacrylate glue. In a pinch, you can seal any small cut with a cyanoacrylate glue, and not have to worry about infection.

A few bandaids, a 3"x1yd pack of gauze, some prep pads, and a 1.5ml tube of superglue will take care of 99% of superficial cuts you can acquire in the wilderness.

For serious cuts, some Quickclot gauze and a suture kit are in order.

I use Crazy Glue for ripped clothes to. I have never had much luck sewing up clothes or using safety pins as the cloth always seemed to pull loose or unravel. Now when I have a rip, I glue the whole edge of the tear and after it dries, I sew it up or use my safety pins. They have never pulled the fabric loose after I started doing this.
