My take on The Gathering

Really enjoyed this "Classic Steven Garsson" report, and even felt
that I was holding my breath most of the time!

Also seemed like I was there watching every move of yours...

I can understand why you consider these shows true vacations, my friend... :)

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

GREAT review STeven! You definitely have a unique writing style and a way with words.

As always, it was a pleasure reading, and makes it easy to visualize what is was like being there.

You DEFINITELY roll in style!

Peter

Great fun to hang out with.
Always trying to give you something, a shot of fine spirits, a cigar, a knife and you about have to fight to pay a meal or bar tab around them. :)

Wide open

They are First Class.....

I was blown away by their enthusiasm, positive attitude and generosity.

These guys are solid and they really contribute to the event with their energy..

You can feel that energy,,,,its contagious...

Major Props....

Good show report STeven. Nice talking with you at the show. I guess that saying "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" is about your gambling money, but think about all the fun you had losing it! I like gambling on the knife lotteries, I might win and I can't lose. Anyway, I did get a knife, a Ken Onion Wrinkle. It's a Speedsafe assisted opener with IKBS bearings and just flies open. Here are a few pictures.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone!

Las Vegas is a preposterous, flashy, glitzy improbable city in the middle of the Mojave desert.....going big and risking it all seems to be the way of things there....."good friends" doesn't even begin to cut it.....there was a feeling at this show of community in a way that we don't usually get to see.....for me, it was an opportunity to reflect, to see Jack Alvarez, The Bybee Family, Phil and Sue Boguszewski, Les DeAsis, Matt Diskin, Grant and Gavin Hawk, Josh Lee, Tony & Tony Jr. Marfione, Ken Onion, Neil Ostroff, Tim Wegner and others....many of these people I have happily known over 15 years.

Tim Wegner of BladeTech used to be back-to-back with my company High Hat Knives at the Puyallup gun show in Washington....this was back in 1993-1995, at least once a month, we would table mates.....knifemaker Paul Goertz and his lovely wife Kathy were also table mates. When you connect with people that you like and have known for a long time, but have not seen recently, it makes you introspective, but it also makes you happy, and want to share that joy with others...thusly, shots on me, and if you smoke, maybe a good stogie will be proffered. No shame in feeling La Dolce Vita.

I also spent a lot of time thinking about R.W. Loveless, and his 50+ years of hard work and devotion to the knife world.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Ken Onions cane is awesome. I told him to have a drawing for it.
You ought to see Kens business card, it's as cool as the cane. Thanks for the comment on the knife Joe.

I can see where hanging out with Snody would be anything but dull - dig those vids! Looks like a really good time.
