My Tan/Tan collection and contest

TanBussecollection001copy.jpg

so this is a pretty poor attempt at this... theres some stuff on here that I feel in the back of my brain are mil. over runs, like the noe variants, but I can't remember when they were offered as overruns, or as variants. and the serrated sjtac, I just... feeeeel like its an overrun... I'm assuming that those items that I can figure out as military over runs were offered during the dates that I place next to the names. that tanker a/combat 4  - I remember it, but not clearly enough to find it.

to me, the real challenge of naming these blades isn't just naming what models, but when they were offered and under what context (mil overrun, variant, special run, standard model). The coolest and most time consuming approach would be to site every reference to mil over runs and variant offers.

I am quoting this so it can't be taken away.

Not scoring yet or nothing but because this was such a great diagram I want it:thumbup:

One hint brother the 2nd one down on left has just been used;) FIx it:thumbup: Everyone note the hint:)

EXTRA credit
Also LVC makes some great points too. I think extra credit is allowed going forward for this diagram. Other cool stuff can earn extrra credit too. ( too be determined by me)

hopefully fixed...

it's gonna take me a loong time to track down even half of the initial postings of the knives in the pictures. but, I did find the initial 2003 offering of the tan assault shakers, so who knows. hopefully the search engine will allow me some actually useful searches.

I don't know when the tan numbered editions came out. theres reference to them from at least mid 2004ish on, but I was unable to find the post that showd the tan versions being offered. instead I found a nice pic from progunner, and the initial tanker a offering (wich I remember being just green's)
tanker a price = 227

serrated sjtac - i have yet to find where the heck this one came from...

sjtac - Old 12-06-2004, 05:20 am
since the search terms for the original sjtac offering make it very hard to find (jerry's threads started by ends around 2005, and "sjtac" pulls up looots of threads), i'm going to use this link as a rough time estimate of when they came out (late 2004 early 2005). there have been several shows and ganza's that this particular knife could have come from.

not entirely sure when the mini's were first offered though... definitely in late 2004. I'm also not sure if the mini's and magnums were offered at the same time as the regular eu17's, but there was definitely an offer made in the liluputian ganza in 2006.

I just searched through 63 pages of the forum archives and didn't find the thread with the tan AA in it... ALLUSIVE.

edit: part three - I'm assuming this represents an attempt to get every tan tan model out there? some fun ones missing, like the shbm that was in the tube, sk's wb's and what have you's :D ooooooooh and the tan tan moab :D

if you really wanna get to someone here on the board, you should custom order a tan tan axe :p

This is one of the grabbag SHBM's in the tube. Some were partially serrated and some were not. Not being a fan of serrations, I was delighted to get a non-serrated one. Not sure how many tan SHBM's were made, but about five were reported in a previous thread on these knives.

I bet this is a tan one! pics from lunde (SD and GW). Ash variant pic from co-store webpage. The sarsquatch I figure you'll want to get in Tan/Tan as well. I am not sure if that one SJT is an "embrace the suck" and since its a variant I am not sure that would count.

is the st-56 the first tan busse (and perhaps the first busse) you puchased, thus starting the madness of trying to collect all models of tan tan busse's (or at least tan related, as shown by the green micarta of the aa, and the black smooth coat of the shbm)?

(first started thread, same month of your registration date on the forum (so maybe?))
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=517800

cause some of these aren't military models, and not all of them are completely tan. not all of them were special runs (ak47), so outside of just the general tan relation, I can't seem to draw any other ties.

as per your president vs. general remark -

is it that you started out looking for (all) tan military blades, but then moved on to the larger tan tan (or just tan) busse combat catalog?

some not quite tan tans, but still fun:

a smooth handled version (Without finger grooves) of the chuckette would be awesome. you could use it like an axe/polearm that way, sliding your hand up and down the handle during your swings.

Two more for LVC

is that a BS or Groove Master? It looks similar.

this is going to wrap up on Thursday of this week .

The day of the ganza;)

then off to exchange

the two tans submitted by Mr Pink are Scrapyards.

the top is a tan yard hook and the 2nd is a scrapper 6 I believe.

He got a point since I wasnt clear:):)

edit: somebody changed the pic?

it's a buffalo soldier, I think they were offered alongside the jungle versions. the groove masters second groove was smaller, and there was more of a pronounced "harpoon" look about them. the buffalo soldiers were also full flat ground, and surprisingly thin feeling, where as the groove masters were high saber and much more stout.

Very nice!!

What's that one called?

swamp rat desert jack :) (I like the ratmandu's more subdued handle design better)
