Just finished my sword baldric, and couldn't be more tickled with the result, it's proper. Made the front and back straps out of thick 1 3/4" wide vegetable tanned cowhide, and made the custom frog out of cowhide of a matching thickness. The front strap, rear strap, and frog come together in a "Y", the junction of which is formed by a 1/4" thick, 2" diameter, solid brass, ring. The ring allows the frog to pivot, so the rig moves with you, heck you can even sit down with this rig on. The front strap and back strap are joined at the center of the chest by a round, heavy, solid brass, buckle, and I cut the lacing for the frog out of elk hide, no half measures for my Bura wrought blade. A good solid rig for a good solid sword. Now all I need are some buxom lasses and a keg of good ale, ah, that's right, my next medieval event is this weekend!!! Huzzah!!!

sarge - do you have the ability to put photos online? I'd love to see your baldric (& tarwar)!

I'd love to see a picture too. If you can snap one, email it to me if you can't post it. Sounds like a great rig.
Thanks,
Steve

Re: Pics of the baldric

I report for duty at the squadron tomorrow, if I can glom on to the digital camera I'll send pics via e-mail. No worry about me sporting a 29" broadsword around the squadron, by now they're used to it. At one formal dinner I was the Sergeant at Arms, and a part of the ceremony called for me to approach the head table, draw my sword and salute. Much to my commander's chagrin, I refused to wear a sabre, just didn't suit my style. Instead I made a belt and baldric, dyed 'em black and spit shined 'em up to go nice with my dress uniform. The sword? What else but a Viking broadsword. As I live and breathe the entire head table kissed the table cloth when I snapped my terrifying salute. The sword's gone now, a gift to a friend, but I'll remember that evening as long as memory serves.

include a couple of the buxom babes, will you?:D

This is just for my personal reference, of course. Someday I hope to have a couple of my own.

Sure didn't look like "Chicken on a stick" to me!!!! :p

Thanks Ferguson, it looks a little plain jane 'cause the leather's still "in the white". The finished product will be a bit more attractive, but not as attractive as "chicken on a stick".

Keith, my persona name is Robert of Yorkshire. I did enough research to determine that I did indeed have an ancestor by the name of Robert living in the Yorkshire area in the 13th century. A good enough name, and a happy coincidence for me being an archer, do a key word search on "Robert Hod" and you'll see why.
