My Temporary display/storage case , what's next?

I lived in an apartment complex years ago, and a neighbor of mine had his entire knife collection stolen because it was in a display case ready for the taking. So, once you have a collection worth stealing, you may want to consider something like this:

Btw, the BIG safe with the guns is upstairs - this one is just for knives!

I do the same thing. Criminals are going to take what's out in the open and easy to carry. I don't know about most of you, but I worked damn hard to secure the collection I have, and I'm not letting it walk away that easy! !

Right on, brother!

I don't display my knives any more. My regular carry knives live in a Pelican hard case. I have the 1120 now (I think thats's the model). I can fit 6 folders in this particular case. It's air/water tight and sits right on top of my gun safe. When I leave for more than just going to work it goes in the safe. Small, compact, rugged and with the new Pick and Pull inserts they're customizable for just about any knives you may have. But they're not cheap. That's for my common rotation knives, which are also the bulk of the $ in my collection. The rest of my folders and all my fixed blades live upstairs in a metal tool box, the kind with the roller drawers and all that.

I store my fixed blades in cases similar to the one in your pic. Not quite that elaborately though, just the dimple foam on both sides. I lay a silicone cloth atop the foam that folds over the knives when the case is closed.

For folders you might want to look into gemology display cases. Nice glass--windowed shallow boxes in many sizes which are built and designed very well. I keep a few rotation racks of my more displayable folders in them, though most of my folders are stored in vintage wine and cigar wooden boxes I have accumulated. Only one box is out of the vault at a time. I have a sheet of cheap black stage velvet I found somewhere and line the bottom of the boxes with it. Very simple.

I do not set the display cases out in my home. Even these I keep in a drawer or other hidden place. I don't 'display' my knives---too encouraging to quick theft.

Several of the display methods I like are the roll-around steel toolboxes and of course a wooden carpenters chest of any kind. Also the Plano tackle boxes are used by a lot of people and are pretty slick. I can see how the Spyderpac type bags are good for transport but certainly not for display. I'd probably use them if I didn't prefer a 'display' setup for storing my knives.

I store my collection in a Benchmade brag bag, a couple of Spyderpacs, and several Kershaw and ZT storage bags, all packed in Rubbermaid bins. I have been considering building a glass top coffee table with drawers to display the LEs, but my wife doesn't really care for coffee tables in general, so...
