My Tenacious is "sticking"...help!

Hi all,
I hope someone can tell me if this is normal or not, but I've been using/playing with this knife since I got it and this is totally new...
Tonight I noticed that my Tenacious was not opening as smoothly as it had been. I haven't taken it apart or done anything to it. It felt like it was scraping or grinding when I opened it, flicking it open. When I tried to open it slowly, just rolling it out (I'm sorry I don't have the terminology for this) I noticed that it sticks at the same point when I open it and close it. I watched the liner when i opened it and closed it and it seems that the liner is moving inward toward the locking position before it's open completely. It does the same thing when I close it. When I close it, I press the liner all the way over and attempt to close it (Almost cut myself when it stuck) it slides back over at a certain position and sticks then moves away as the blade continues to close.
Argh! I'm sorry I don't know the terminology to explain this. Before tonight it was closing and opening flawlessly, I don't understand what happened or why.
I've only used it for stuff like opening boxes, cutting paracord and some mundane stuff. I don't beat it or use it to pry or anything like that so any ideas on what's going on?
Thanks,
Gray

Is it almost open when it starts sliding over and sticking?
Does it stick just as the tang edge begins sliding past the liner-lock?

Sounds like the impacts may have damaged the liner-lock surface (indenting)
See STR's post in this thread in his subforum:

Alternatively, it may just be some fairly gritty substance that has gotten into your knife.
I would suggest first trying to cleaning it with a toothbrush and dish-soap in warm/hot water.

Use WD-40 or 3-in-1 to remove the water (3-in-1 prevents corrosion as well).
If it doesn't smooth up, I would suggest either sending it in to Spyderco or servicing it yourself.

Yes, it is almost open when it sticks. About 5 millimeters before the lock would engage...same place it sticks when I try to close it. I used 3 in 1 oil to clean it and used some of that compressed air stuff (like for computers) to try to clean it out. Didn't help. And, like I said it, the whole knife just feels like it's grinding when it opens or closes. Anyway, I guess I might have to send it in, I'm not comfortable taking it apart.
Thanks for the response.

I forgot to mention, the phosphor bronze washers on the Tenacious are fairly thin, so it is also possible, if there is just enough slop in the pivot screw, that dirt could get in there and damage them (actually a problem with most metal washers)

I use dishwashing soap, and squirt it in the lock/pivot area.Work it back and forth under hot water.Make sure it is completely dry.put some Remington oil in the pivot area on each side of the blade. This usually does the trick for me.;)

so any ideas on what's going on?
Thanks,
Gray

My idea is that you have just described normal operation of a liner lock with a ball detent.

Unless there is more to this than the initial post your knife sounds fine.

Is it getting stuck on the ball detent? if so, that's normal, you just have to push the linerlock over a bit more and hold it there till it's past the ball detent.
