Hey everybody

My trusted workhorse, the spydie Tenacious, has lost its hole to make it comply with our ridicilous knife-laws:grumpy:. I used to edc this every single day at work, but in the end decided to fill the hole with metal-epoxy so it cant be opened with one hand.

Since then ive lost my job, so now it just sits in the drawer collecting dust.

But since i feel naked without a Spydie in my pocket i ordered the Spyderco DK penknife so i can legally always have a knife on me. Just got it today and i was expecting a puny little knife that would cut my fingers over first time i used it but boy was i wrong!

The DK penknife has very grippy G-10, my fav blade shape in s30v steel, wire-clip that carries very deep, as always the best jimping on the market and a very useful finger choil. Dont like slip-its that much but i was surprised at how good a job Spyderco has done on this one. The "lock-up" feels solid and i feel confident using it.

But does anybody know what the small markings on the right side of the blade is? You can see them on the link here:

If somebody knows how to post the pic in this thread id be very grateful!

All in all, with shipping and import taxes the little spydie cost me 240 USD:(. I kinda regret not buying 2 of them but they ended up abit pricier than i had expected. I guess itll have to wait untill i get another job.

Regards

The markings are Sal's signature.

Sorry to hear about the knife laws where you live...seeing those spyder holes plugged up with that gunk kinda brings a tear to my eye...reminds me of someone who has lost the use of one of their limbs...it's still there but totally useless! :(

Let me put it this way...it was either this or carrying some other brand and I chose my trusted Tenacious.

And its still killing me...every time i wanna open it my thumb heads for the opening hole.

But its not any worse than drilling the epoxy out that day i leave this country...

Kmm, are you Danish? The DKPK will probably not last long, I'm pretty sure the hippies will have any pocket knife outlawed soon, not unlike in the UK.

they've allready gone further. we can carry a knife with a blade up to 3 inches long, so long as it folds, and is non-locking.
we can open it in any way we like (outside of the standard butterfly/auto rules which also apply to many US states)

Yeah im danish...and they just regulated the law even further. Before if you got caught with an illegal knife you'd be fined almost a 1000 USD and second time youd do some jailtime. Now an illegal knife gives automatically 7 days in jail. Thats why i decided to fix the Tenacious and order the DKPK.

@amen74

Ive thought about trying my luck in the states or canada. I even got my girlfriend convinced on the idea...but at this stage its just talk and dreams.

I'm Danish too, but moved to the US recently, so am all too aware of the ridiculous Danish laws. Its typical patchwork lawmaking, people really don't get stabbed with one hand opening knives in Denmark, but with kitchen knives and screwdrivers. Its all a way to make it less threatening to the hippie elite.

Just before I moved they changed the laws from the fine to the jailtime, and I think some kind of law about folders not being able to lock was put in too, but don't quote me on that. I always carried my Delica and just didn't care. As it happens I moved to a US city where you can't carry a knife, period.

I honestly think you will find it hard to move to the US and even harder to move to Canada without being in the right field of work and without knowing someone willing to apply for the correct visa for you at the right time. Short of marrying a US citizen or having parents/children here, thats the only way to get here. Investigate H1B visas.

Where are you from in Denmark, kmm?

Yeah, no locking folders except for craftsmen, hikers, hunters, etc and no one-handed openers period and that includes neck knives.

As it just happens i am in the right field of work. Im a metalsmith/ sheet metal worker (rustfast klejnsmed) and when i started in this trade i specifically chose one that could be used all over the world cos ive always known that DK wasnt the place for me. Ive done some research on canadian immigration visas and i dont think itll be too difficult to get one, but itll take up to a year for it all to be processed. Where theres a will theres a way, right?

I just moved to Svendborg from Copenhagen. Where in DK were you from? And where in the states did you move to?

I moved from Vejle to Philadelphia, PA. I have an eligible profession too, but I wanted to move here because my girlfriend was here. I did try to get the right work visa, but in the end no-one really wanted to hire me in April and then wait until October for me to start. Marriage ended up being the right way, and by that time we had been together for a couple of years anyway.

I'd get a $4000 fine, even carrying that, with the mods you made.

Don't come to Oz.

Don't get me wrong, love it here................but, the laws suck!

:D

Are kitchen knives legal,if so carry one of those in a sheath in protest. If a Police officer stops you tell him "They already took my folding knives away, and I needed a knife to cut up my food,is this Illegal also, You mean to tell me I have no right cut up my food, shall I gnaw on my steak like a dog and not look refined in front of you uppidie hippies.Move to Texas brother, nobody looks at you funny for having a pocket knife or a gun.If they take away those rights, I promise you I will carry a freaking hatchet if I have to.

You cannot carry a fixed blade, except if you are going fishing or hunting, and then the cutting edge has to be under 12cm (~5 inches). You might also risk being arrested if you carry a screwdriver, boxcutter or similar item unless you're in the middle of doing your job in a public area.

That my friend is not true. If you were using it as a weapon or threatening to use it then yes, perhaps. If you were just carrying it without a reasonable excuse then for a first time penalty at most would be $250 with no conviction. More likey, depending on the circumstances and why the police searched you in the first place, you would probably get no penalty, just warned by the court. That is if the police didn't just let you go with a warning. But if you have a reasonable excuse then it is ok, depending on time of day and activity you are doing, going to, or coming from. Walking between nightclubs at night - no excuse, to cut up an orange which you are going to have for lunch - ok.
