Hi Everyone
Thank you for all those that continue to support the new guys. This is my third knife and my first hidden tang. I made it for a good friend and hunting buddy that is a policeman. I had drawn several designs and asked him which one he liked best. From there, I did not tell him I was going to make the knife for his birthday. While making the knife, he took me bowhunting for the first time. I found a mule deer shed that day and thought it was appropriate for his knife. I had not planned on using antler as it is a little difficult compared to using a block of wood. The red stripe in the guard represents his uniform stripes and the antler was dyed to represent his uniform color. I also shaped the frontal profile of the guard to look like a shield. Though the knife is not perfect, I am proud to give it to him.
5/32" 1095 with hamon
1084 steel guard
dyed mule deer antler handle
6 3/4" from tip to guard
Comments and critique are welcomed.
*Edit:* I made a sheath for this knife and I didn't like the proportion to the handle. The finish looked poor too, so I made a different style. The second is a cross draw meant to be worn left of center and drawn right handed. Tell me what you think.
Thanks
Brett
